^^^ Close, they're Persian Sassanid soldiers

    Battle of Callinicum

Part of the many many many many many many many wars the Byzantines/Romans fought with the Persians/Sassanids.

    In the words of Cocroach
Ah that would make sense, considering that the Sassanids and the Eastern Romans frequently copied each others equipment. It was the pattern on the shield that clued me in to the time period and the region.

You got it by the way, good job! Cocroach said to rep the winner, so here you go

    And lol at that motivational

    Ahahahahahahaha... wrong. Both of you!

But yeah, there are some ERE troops in the picture, but none of the combatants is Persia. The Sassies had no real heavy infantry to begin with.

The picture comes up under battle of callinicum

I had to image search several battles up till I finally found that picture :[

So are they central asian then? Cause there's not many soldiers who fight with those uniforms. Its either persian or byzantine.
Their faces look Persian or nomadic central asian.
    We need a hint!

What? Never heard that in my life. Could be for the Parthians but the Sassanids had a decent all-round army.

I say that if this is the case, you repost your original, intended battle. I really wanted to be right about the Eastern Romans

    1. If their faces looked Persian, they'd look white European, because that's how Persians looked at the time.
    2. There are Romans there, AA, and you are right there. you were wrong by giving scott rep.
    3. This particular picture also comes up with the battle I googled under the name of the battle I googled, and I must say is more fitting to that one I googled than Callinicum.

I didn't know google had an image recognition and search function. While that is an amazing service, now I have to make sure google doesn't know the images I post in these threads, too?

It's fine if you have a hunch, type the name of that battle into a search engine in order to check. But if people are clueless and just drag a picture onto the google search slit, it completly defeats the purpose of this game!

That's why you change the brightness of the pic
    Makes such recognition impossible.

I actually was refering to the fact that you can search for an image on Google, and, due to the nature of it's search engine, it gives you a related picture rather than the actual picture you were searching for.

    Regarding Image Search programs:

I know of them, but I also know they were foreign allied troops, thus never numerous and never fully reliable. They may have been the best infantry in the world, but they were not Sassanid troops.
