Meer so apathetic. That's just how it is. If you compare specific parts of dialogue, say the convo with Garrus in the car right before you go meet Sidonis, between femshep and manshep then femshep always sounds like she actually cares about the people whose loyalty she's trying to win over. Manshep always sounds like he's that neighbour who gives you an obligatory listen and a platitude before going back to mowing his lawn.

Meer is awful. He sounds like he's literally saying the punctuation marks in his script. Jennifer Hale, on the other hand, just sounds plain bored. She's obviously the better VA, but they're both pretty bad still. Probably has to do with the mediocre writing though.

I prefer Meer. I don't understand all the hate towards his voice and to be honest Hale is such a common voice actress these days that her voice almost ruins the immersion for me. I hear her and I think "Naomi Hunter" or another of her 50,000 characters so far. Where as Meer has only really done Shepard as far as major voice acting roles.

I don't think that's the case at all. Pretty much only one person said as much. You're just trying to justify why Hale isn't winning.

Meer doesn't sound anything like a zombie. He sounds like a disciplined professional who is in control of the situation. His speeches show just enough inflection and emotion to show a bit of his humanity, but other words he sounds confident and reassuring which someone in command would be because his attitude and confidence is what is going to dictate the tempo, his personnel are going to look to him for assurances and if he has his together they will feel more confident. I really don't know what you guys are expecting emotion wise from him. I AM in the military and more than I come from the infantry and his speeches and directions and so forth are as much as I've seen from anyone else in a command billet. The only time you really hear anyone in a combat unit sounding 'emotional' is when you're in the middle of combat and then commands and your voice and so forth sound frantic, but ME doesn't have much in combat chatter and what it does have the other voice actors are about as guilty of under-acting that as Meer is.

Maybe it's just my country then. We have compulsory military service over here, and during mine i did not meet any soldier or officer that sounded as pathetic as Meer. He has no authority, no charisma, no anything. You can easily imagine him reading the newspaper and having a sandwich while voicing the lines. I'm not so crazy about Hale other (overuse kicking in by now), but when i have to choose... yeah, i'll go with her any day.

North American Free Trade Agreement YEAH. Maybe next time out of solidarity with mexico they'll let Cesar Millan voice manshep. Well, it would certainly be an improvement.
