I was not aware of any such agreement . I didn't vote for my own nor did I abstain from voting. In my opinion everyone should be totally free to vote for whatever AAR he or she likes the most, regardless of who wrote it.

Yes, actually this is the case. You can vote for your own or somebody else's or abstain. There has been discussions from time to time about voting for your own work in various TWC competitions. Here is a post by LuckyLewis about the same issue for the picture and video competitions.
At the end it is up to you. When you have only one vote, it could be a tough decision. But still, it is up to you.

Voted, it was a tough decision. I'm a big fan of all of the above, so whichever ends up coming out on top will be a very worthy winner.
