D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\data
and the scripts folder located here:
C:\Users\urnamehere\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\scripts

Ran it. Didn't work. Same screens pop up.
I'd uninstall, reinstall the whole damn thing but right now time is not on my side.

What would that have to do with it? The only thing I'm running are Windows Firewall and Microsoft Essentials and no messages of anything funny. The only thing the SP1 is looking for is the C++ 2005 disc in the drive in either case. Besides, why can't the installer find it's already been installed and boot me out?
The only thing showing up was a blip of a DOS box. If I have to run the bat file as "Run as Administrator" and XP Compatible, someone does not know how to write a valid batch file.
click on browse and tell me what file is it looking for.

delete the mod_ .pack files and the radious mods, that is most likely your problem. really not sure why you have mods installed after you formatted your hard drive and manually deleted the shogun 2 folder unless you did an OS upgrade which would not have deleted any mods that are outdated nore would it be considered a format, and would explain the lack of appdata/roaming as it does not exist in Windows XP. also if you dont manually delete the shogun 2 folder but instead just uninstall the game, the mods will stay in place and not be deleted.

Thanks for the heads up.
Now I just went ahead & deleted the entire folder since the Steam uninstall left 'residual files'.
The reason they were there was probably that I copied my Steam folder before I formatted my pc & pasted it back after the format.
I can now play the game and it's AMAZING!
I used to have 20~25fps on medium setting with my GTX285 on Vista and now I suddenly get 30 (very intense) ~ 80fps with every setting on & maxed out!
That new XFX 6970 & Windows 7 seem to be paying off.
Now, this is what I call good news. Enjoy playing.
The only odd thing is that loading on Empire/Napoleon/Shogun2 takes a really long time (5 minutes or so before the game starts!) while it only took a minute or so on Vista. :-/
Used to be able to play this game. Ever since purchasing the Rise of The Samurai and getting the latest patch it crashes at the splash screen every time. I have removed all mods, reinstalled the game and verified the game cache and performed all of the recommended steps. What the hell was updated that broke the ENTIRE GAME.
Hey Craig
Guess what?
Steam refuses to work & it tore my pc inside out. I hate steam.

Read http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=230971 as it deals with everything Steam distributes?
Ok I tried it
It didn't work
*sigh*
