a child of 66, so yes I remember Lou Macari, he inherited a poor team, and we had only a few highlights, blinked and he was gone
do you know I opened the Fantasy football thread and expected it to be about Cardiff and Palace winning promotion, but then remembered it is a Fantasy thread, not a bloody miracle thread![]()
Ah, so I bet you're a massive Trev fan then or Alvin Martin your boyhood hero?
I heard Fat Sam on the radio and he said he wants promotion this season, anything else would be a failure. Is that what most hammers think?
As for Palace, I know we have a fan on here but I don't think they can make it this season, but I expect Cardiff to be up there with the Hammers, they have got some new players, Earnie is back there after his time at Forest, proven at this level.
Also got Kenny Miller
Oh can you spare a G for Trev ?

Based purely on the second half of last season under Dougie Freedman once Burley had gone, Palace were comfortably mid table based on results. This season the only players we've lost are Gardner and Danns, and we've brought in players to replace them (3 internationals so far), so I'm confident we'll stay up, especially if we can get a good season out of Ambrose.
Promotion is too far though, I predict lower middle table for us.
Alvin was great, forever immortalised for whacking Woodcock in front of us in the Clock end at Highbury, whilst it was all going off further up the pitch - unfortunately the line o saw him, but it was sweet
But defenders has to be Sir Bob, there are no others
Tonka I don't miss penalties Stewart
Brooking great player, lovely man I once had the privelege of working with him at a presentation
My favourite though was Devonshire, what a player - I suppose one of the reasons I dislike Wigan so much after the awful tackle on him by their players (that and their flat caps whippets, crap pies, plastic stadium, muppet chairman and mickey mouse fans don't help I suppose)
As of today I will be highly surprised if we do not go up, Leicester and Forest will probbly be there or thereabouts along with Cardiff (assuming they recover from their stuffing this sunday)
Palace should be safe, though I expect that the Seagulls will finish above them

Other ex-players worthy of a mention: Seth Johnson, sold for a club record of £7m to Leeds and then returned to us for nothing when Leeds terminated his contract, sacrificed his football career by staying on in his final match for us despite being injured in the play off final against West Brom in 2007 (we won 1-0 and promotion to the premiership) when asked by a fan why he stayed on despite being injured his reply was "well we won didn't we?"
Tom Huddlestone, sold for a ridiculously low fee of 500k to Spurs and in a cruel twist of fate scores his league goal on loan at Wolverhampton Wanders against....Derby.
Kris Commons, poached from our East Midlands rivals Notts Forest, scored a thunderbolt in a 1-0 win against Man Utd in the carling cup in 2009 and scored the winner to seal a epic comeback 3-2 win at the home of Notts Forest in 2009 after Derby went 2-0 down.
Peter Shilton.
Mart Poom, ex-Estonian goalkeeper and now goalkeeping coach for Arsenal and Estonia, unbelievably scored AGAINST Derby in a match for Sunderland.
Paulo Wanchope, scoring a tremendous goal against Man Utd in 1997, skinning 3 defenders before calmly sliding the ball past Peter Schemichael into the net.
Current manager is Nigel Clough, son of Brian.
Our biggest rivals, Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Leeds United.

Kris Commons the fat- a gifted player but a right greedy
. The lifelong Forest fan ran off across the A52 and then screwed the Rams over for Celtic. Watch him screw over the Bhoys for the 'Gers in the near future.
The Rams (and I'm being polite here) look to have a stable set-up this season - Shackell is a good signing and you've nicked Tyson off us. Fast as lightning is Nath but for the last two seasons he couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo at the City Ground and spent a fare bit of time injured too. Got to applaud agent Clough though for getting involved in the Bombardier dispute.

On that subject he's out of tomorrow's match as he's....injured...and aye your right about Commons
With regards to the Reds i can't make up my mind how you will do as you've lost a fair amount of players and only bought 3 in (2 of them should be good, not sure on Boateng), if you have luck with injuries (the opposite of what we have) and suspensions then you should be there abouts, hopefully we can kick on this season, certainly the aim is for the play offs however the injuries need to clear up and we still need a couple of decent players to bring in. The adrenaline is flowing now

Watch him spend more time in the physio's room once Cloughie starts playing him out wide.
It's a worry tbh. We've lost some experience but we've gained some too but we've come up short in a lot of potential deals. I think Stevie Mac has had his hands tied though due to money constraints and the infamous transfers acquisitions committee that so frustrated Billy Davies. I am worried about our lack of squad depth.
I think Derby can be in and around the top 6 if they stay free of injuries (like you've said). You had a good run at the start of last season IIRC but around December and January you faltered badly.
@Sharpe's Company - aye. How you think Vale are going to do?
Vale - there gonna win the league, Ben Williamson to star, promoted along with Crawley, Swindon and ANother?
Well I saw nothing from Hull tonight, Hull left winger for them looked ok, Blackpool a little disappointing from last years entertainment but should be in and around the Play-offs
Looking forward to seeing Southampton Leeds on the box tomorrow, before heading off on Sunday to the Hammers BBQ the Bluebirds,![]()
Ben Williamson, where did you pull his name fromI've not seen him yet, only been to one pre-season match and he didn't feature.
At the start of last season I would of said we were going to win the league but then came christmas, Micky Adams went to Sheff United, we appointed a complete knob as a manager and we fell from top of the league to 11th come the end of the season, with us making national headlines for all the wrong reasons, with our fans attacking our manager, racial abusing one of his players, and mass protests against the board.
Adams is now back but it's not the same as the start of last season, we don't really know what the season has in store for us, I want promotion of course, this is the 4th season now in League Two, I've been going Vale week after week now for 20 years and before we went down to League Two, I'd never seen us in this Division before and quite frankly it's a blood nightmare, although it's good for a away jolly's, we tend to take large away numbers, and even against the likes of Macclesfield Town, a fairly localish match we have more fans at their ground than they do
Hope we give Crawley a nice welcome to Football League, we have played over 100 seasons in the League, this is their first, lets hope it shows![]()

with Di Canio, the Daggers and Southend in Div2, thought I would take a look and of course with you supporting Vale had to keep an eye out he seems to be your one to watch(also heard he will lead the revolution on TWC
)
looking forward to Derby as well, last time we went there was a 5 nil win

ha ha neither are we, we had an awful line up that day so could not believe it, it was also special for the fact that my youngest daughter who I had forced a season ticket on for a number of years saw her first Hammers away League victory that day
seem to remember a win the previous time as well, much better memories than the old sandpit you used to play in
Cardiff fans shag sheep not eat them![]()
