Default Is MTW building system too complicated, should MTW2 have an easier one?

I really hope Medieval II won't be so complicated as Medieval I... I can still remember the complicated building system, as there are too many buildings to build that I couldn't find out what was the building that I should build... The units are too many too, there are too many units which makes me confused about which unit should I used... I think RTW is just nice, and I hope MTW II can be same as RTW's building system... So what are you guys thinking about?

You, roasting on a spit for your blasphemy... mmmmm...

J/K, I would like to see a more extensive/deep yet simpler tech tree. Europa Barbarorum is there depth-wise, but a bit too complex. We'll probably have to wait for some entrepeneuring modder to introduce things like assimilation buildings, unify the barracks thing, etc...

Well, I really think it is too complicated for MTWI... I can swear even today I never saw all the buildings and units in MTWI... And I don't want such things happend again in MTWII, as it is not fun to make some complicated game right?

I like Shogun the best, it was very clean and systematic. Really felt like you were building towards something and everything tied in with every construction you made. You know what I mean, ie, I want this region to have the Heavy Cavalry, and I want this one to give me geisha, I want this region to be a powerhouse, making them all farming powerhouses. There was character there that's been lost in Europe.
I'm running RTR now, and it seems good too.

    I want complications and micromanagement.

But looks like I wont get it:
GS: Will certain provinces still provide special modifiers for units that are built there? For instance, Spain has such a rich history in metalworking that in Medieval, Spanish units got all sorts of weapon and armor bonuses if the right buildings were constructed. Or certain units could only be built in certain provinces, such as Welsh longbowmen.

BS: We deal with region-specific units via the same mercenary system as in Rome, rather than restricting the availability of a faction's core troops. Units don't get bonuses for being built in particular regions, but where regions have a specialty, such as sword making in Damascus or Toledo, then they're more likely to attract guilds, which certainly do give bonuses to units.

A shame really. I don't necessarily need a system as complex as EB's, but a ZoR/AoR'ish RTR-system would fit me just right.

I just don't want every city to be able to produce every troop type, so specialising is possible.. CA has rather cleverly pre-empted that with the castle/city choice so I reckon it could work well. I just want to say things like- 'Thank god for my Yorkshire/Wessex/Anglian spearmen or the day would have been lost'. Sad I know.

i would like to see less buildings but longer loading time, this would mean instead of having all your regions built up and u can get any troops anywhere u would build up certain regions so 1 might be for horses another for heavy infantry so on and so forth( it would make things more simple and more strategy and depth into the game)

Well, what could be better than not seeing every building after playing the game for two years...not seeing every building after playing the game for three years of course. I liked MTW 1 very much and continue to play it via the XL mod. So I do hope that MTW 2 will have a gaming depth close to it.

It was more complicated than Rome's (not that that signifies much). For most units you needed different buildings together. For example Mounted Sergeants needed both some stables and a spearmaker, or something like that (lol).

What is so complicated aboutMTW's build system?

You have Castles, Farms, Ports, Swords, Archery,Cavalry, Inns/Brothels,Religions buildings, etc.
And for each of those you have a few levels of improvements.

    What's so complicated?

Yes. I remember the MTW style building and I love it. It lacks in RTW though but many mods 'corrected' that.

Shocking. I thought every TW gamer wanted as much complexity as possible.

I loved the fact that it was difficult to build every darn building in every city. So you had to specialize your cities. In RTW you can end up with everything in many cities...

I also LOVED the fact that for some units you needed to build a combination of buildings - a thing solery missed in RTW. I hoep MTW2 will bring this back.

Unfortunatly Im a mircomanagement fanatic so I choose the system with alot of choises and a twist of complications Now it is ages ago since I played RTW and I only remember how it looks like in RTR and I liked the way it was in RTR.

I liked MTW's approach towards buildings and recruitment...even if sometimes you needed four different buildings to train a certain unit.

However, I really like EB's recruitment system aswell. Limiting horses (not just camels) to certain regions, jumbling together barracks, stables, archery ranges etc, into one expensive and costly building. And the government system!

I would love to see lots of options for buildings and such. Just give us complete tech trees for each faction so we know what the heck we are doing! (On disk, and preferably in-game so we don't have to break out the magnifying glass to read some chart out of the box).
