Thread: Complete DB update [Release 2]

    Default Complete DB update [Release 2]

    I've started a db update based on CA's released documentation. Here are the tables covered:

    • Anything in bold should be looked at, interesting definitions
    • Anything in bold red needs column reformatting
    • If it's not listed here, it isn't done. That's because a.) It's of no use to modders or b.) it's previous definitions were sufficient.
    • Not all of the tables are completed - a small few were too awkward to fully decode the column order. It's not likely to hamper modding, but I'll go back to them at later stage.
    • Unit-stats_naval and unit_stats_naval_experience_bonuses are not yet finished, they'll be in the next release.


    To install just replace the DBFileTypes folder of you Pack File Manager with the one provided.

    It looks interesting, but I have one major question. What if some of the columns are actually useless?

    For instance in the unit_stats_land, there is an "mount armor" and "mount health". But before they were classified as "Unused", not as "unknown".

    If we now can put names to all columns, but the columns is not used, won't we lose a lot of time trying to change fields that will have no effect?

    It was me who labeled them columns previously, from speaking with Jack Lusted. So I know which columns in that particular tables are unused, and I won't be editing them. After that it's trial and error.

    I've been speaking with Erasmus, the designer of PFM. He says he can automate the updating process, so for now I'm not going to update anything else.

    Ok, but if he automates the update process, we may end with columns which are unused, but would be updated anyway.

    Also, are you sure they are all unused, or was it some suppostion?

    And other question, can Erasmus us this new knowledge to make all the tables which were not editable, editable now?

    Those which were not editable were models_buildings and models_ships.
    They are included too, but a entry of those refers to another _logic file, which aren't included in the xml collection, but it seams they are baked into the DB... so those might do still problems :/

    .logic.xml.riging is in rigidmodels under naval, im guessing the other logic controlls positioning though to make up the rest of the table.

    I also see it contains many start_pos_ files, which were not in the db before

    Do you think its possbile that the controls for the deployable defenses are in there, such as the data that controls the firing arcs of cannons with the sand bag defenses or the width of the trenches?

    TC you missed all the tables from 'projectiles_explosions' to 'regions_sea'. Is this an oversight or did you skip them and plan to check them later?

    EDIT: never mind I guess you're searching the ones that are the most useful first.

    I don't go near tables that obviously have no use, or don't need updating. Hence a few gaps. Nearly there everyone!

    I'm looking at the unit table with PFM.

    It now has several "uit_type" columns, a "ship_type".. But I don't see that in the XSD. Is that normal?
