They're the ones who are most likely to tell their friends about the game. They provide all sorts of free advertising. Furthermore, they're a key force behind the "long tail"--that is, they're the folks helping to drive sales of RTW, M2TW, etc, 7 years down the line.
Absolutely. Any games company with any sense would allow modding to encourage these things. I know I would. If it encourages sales then surely it would be churlish to not give this. People have bought games because of their moddability and avoided them due to a lack of it. My suspicion is that CA are very `precious` about their game to the point that they refuse to release anything that may help modders until very late, hence why this `gesture` has been made 2 years down the line and not 3 months after release and why nothing for STW2 yet. They may not have released at all without constance modder whining.

It could also be a `convince SEGA` thing. I don`t know for sure as i`m not there.

It also explains why STW2 is still kept locked up. CA are still churlish about that. We probabaly won`t see anything for that until at least a year at the soonest.

Yet is even what we have for ETW\NTW enough?

Hmm? From what I've seen the scripting effects in ETW aren't that many. Did they released a list like scripting commands etc here like the docudemons?

But if you can't edit the map, then it's pretty useless.

People were so focused on having a new map, that nearly no one ever tried to create new campaign map features and there would have been (and still are) a lot of possibilites.

If it's not one thing, it's another.

Members have long been trying to contact CA, and now that CA finally talks to us, they ungratefully ask for more instead of appreciating what we have? That's just down-right sad...

My god people, leave CA alone. At least they tried to help the community; that's much more than I can say about other communities. If CA does develop tools, then I'm sure they'll release them. But for god's sake, quit pestering them. They indeed have no obligation to this community whatsoever! So quit trying to guilt-trip them with "Oh, you're mean CA! You're ignoring your fans!!!" As if SEGA isn't pushing them enough, sheesh...

EDIT: This is not directed towards any member specifically. It's just getting very tiresome to see members complaining over such silly, trivial, things.

editing and creating new maps = overhaul mods to be properly created, more provinces etc. look at the mods (especially fantasy mods) for M2TW and RTW that should explain itself..

all the fuming. you should get over it. you are the exact personification of this chinese proverb "得寸进尺" get an inch, want a foot. I hope ca don't stop because of you from what I have read in this thread, formations are hardcoded, so you best bet is to ask for a patch. you can always take your money else where if you are fed up. I doubt they will miss you, especially with how you reacted to their good will gesture. good luck and go grab a beer from the freezer.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Have you had your daily dose of fear yet? craziii

The most important thing in a TW game is the campaign map. Modders are not yet allowed to create new maps, so, those new files given by CA are useless.

the optimist in me will hope that the unit editor idea might allow me to one day contribute to mods for Rome tw 2, which I'm sure is coming out next if not shogun 2 itself.

Edit: Can anyone actually tell me what these can be used for? Frankly I'm not fussed if its not much but I still want to know.

Stop whinning please. These files are not useless. TC has worked a lot to add the new definition to PFM.
For the ship stats alone, we now have 117 new columns properly identified.
