[idea]Annual poll on front page

It would be cool to have a weekly or monthly poll right on the front page (Perhaps on the right or left side)

We dont run that many polls. Are you looking for polls about stuff like site features? Or for fun type polls like "Which faction do you play the most?"

Expand on the idea for me please.

Yea, like what's your favorite faction? Or Did you buy the DLC? Did you beat legendary. It doesn't have to be limited though, it could have site features as well. I just enjoy taking polls, and seeing the results.

I dont think this is a bad idea. In fact lots of places run little polls like this, and it probably has its uses for site content as well as having some entertainment value.

There are 2 issues with us doing it though. First, the front page is custom designed, which means that it will have to be rewritten to do something like this. That isnt a bad thing, it just means that if we decide to do this it cant happen tomorrow, or probably even next week.

Second is the coming forum upgrade. We have plans to switch to vBulletin 4.0 sometime in the near future. Squid has been working on porting over all of our other mods and add-ons which is quite a pain for a major upgrade. There is still a bit of work to be done there, Squid can give more details on that than I can, and I still have to sort out a few hardware issues. 4.0 might even have a feature like this built in.

I will see if Squid wants to comment, or even Belisarius since it would probably end up being run by Content.

The bad news, I haven't heard from Dragoon and the test site on his server is down and I have no access to it, so I'm going to have to start over getting everything ported to vb4. I'm working on getting a functional version up and running on my home computer running using uniserver. If its supposed to go on the forum index then I wouldn't even look at implementing it until after we upgrade to vb4.

If its going on the home page, then beli can have content code up the change to the home page and I can implement it fairly easily.

btw use thor, its not like we are using it right now anyways with the drive issues we have had. The 500 gig drives are certainly fast enough for you to work on porting and testing. We can talk more about that in the Tech Bazaar. We have a lot to sort out there.

I think vb4 has this built in. At least, I think I remember seeing it on Paradox (which has the publishing suite) and the demo I tried.

Unfortunately I can't user thor, since our vb license says our test site cannot be on a publicly accessible server, and thor is publicly accessible.
