i just had an idea to pacify the pope!!
make the papal states playable from the start and play a hotseat campaign, so you control the papal states aswell as your other faction!!
im definetly gonna give this a try.......

Papal States are usually bugged for the player trying to play the. Let us know how it goes.

i was afraid you would say that!
i expect it would be either a family tree thing or when you vote a new pope in, but i'll see how it goes anyway

Family tree is a known bug. Papal elections, I don't know.

i've decided to give this a miss and put the papal states back to unplayable.

i decided to start pursuing another idea where i've joined milan and venice, sort of.
i've took venice out of the game but transferred the venetian heavy infantry and venetian archers over to milan, i like both the factions but prefer milan, but i couldn't bring myself to destroying the venetians in a campaign!!
it should make the game interesting because although milan have an excellent city recruit pool, their castle recruit pool is quite lame, it should add abit more variation!!
