So I take a few months off for various reasons, then my PC speakers broke and just needed to wait to get some new ones, come back and what do I see? A new version, bloody good show and all that, but... isn't that Tone doing some work, the same Tone who said he was going to be in the background only after all the incredible work put in for RS2 in the first place? I never did think you'd manage to fully stay away, but glad to see you're involved in the new version.

Well, can't wait to see the new version in all it's glory, get a bit of time to have a play again.

    4) Some more Carthaginian traits - possibly some sort of leadership system there too - I can't remember
    5) Significantly improved Roman leadership system with:
    i) provincial governorship traits and ancillaries
ii) new post Marian equestrian leadership system reflecting the "tres militiae" progression, with new traits allowing transition from Plebeian to Equestrian status and Adlection to the senate for gifted equestrians.
    iii) Roman military decorations
    iv) Roman legion ancillaries
    6) Graphics enhancements - lighting changes and some more we'll reveal shortly
    7) New mod-foldered campaigns

DVK is in a better position to answer this as I've only recently started working on things again

In answer to the question regarding the release of the next patch, let me elaborate a bit so people will understand why it has been so long. The team felt a lot of pressure to release RS2 last year, and we did knowing there were things we really, REALLY wanted to be better or finished off. The traits were a cobbled mess..TBH; thrown together at the last minute because there was no other choice. There were environmental things, as Tone said earlier, that we knew 'could' be better, but would require more time. Mod-foldered swap factions were simply 'out'...there was no time to work on them. Decent research into other culture\faction leaderships and traits was impossible.
And some other enhancements that we were frustratingly close to getting to work, but solutions just eluded us at the time of RS2's release.

All of this adds up to a more or less 'unfinished product', I guess you'd say.....where I had issues with certain things undone, and Tone, and others in different areas. And, it has, and it will take some time. I can't really say how much time...and I'm not going to theorize on it, because RS2 was pretty darn good after Patch2.1a, and we're still pretty proud of it 'as is'. Patch 2.2 will put the finishing touches on a good thing, and personally, I think it will be well worth waiting for it if you're into RTW.

Traits-wise, the following things have already been added and are working:

    1. Hellenistic Leadership almost exclusively researched and fleshed out in graphical form by Kervanos. It is 'extensive', believe me...and the Greek enthusiasts should have a lot of fun with it.

    2. Eastern Leaderships specific to Parthia and Armenia. Though they are not as extensive as the Greek and Roman stuff, they are based on very scarce information, and very immersive if you're a fan of those factions.

    3. Carthage has a leadership system which is, again, not as extensive as Greek and Roman (since the Roman's destroyed most of the evidence), but it is spot on historically based, solely, on the writings of ancient sources.

Others still being worked on and tested in the development stage:

    4. All Barbarian and Nomadic factions have had a slew of new traits added, as well as ancillaries. There are specific traits for them broken out from many RTW 'generic' traits, specific command stuctures, tribal associations, and a host of Celtic specific stuff provided by Mulattothrasher for the most part. There are still a few additions being made here.

    5. And as Tone said, the Romans have had numerous corrections, enhancements and additions as well. This is an extremely complicated system, and only the 'brains' of this team (Tone) understands very well how it works. All I could say was 'something is wrong'...and he's been fixing it.

That's only because I'm not in your situation of having to manage the whole project!

.....and yes some new graphical enhancements have become possible in the last few days that we would like to do some more work on prior to release.

One thing that needs to be fixed is the horrible "bad traits" system which is definitely broken.

Leave your Leader in your capital from turn 1, and he wil be a bad trader, bad farmer, hated by the people, hated by the nobility... even tho he is running the most prosperous city in the empire on medium taxes.

The thing that worries me is, that the RS team will never be satisfied. I mean 2.1 is already almost perfect, but they are giving us 2.2 which is better. Where will they stop and just enjoy the game they have mde ?

When the 2.1 was released, I have had to begin another roman campaign.

Now that my current roman campaign is going well, you are about to release a new update.

I just hope there won't be a too much updates.

Well considering the 2.1 update was released over 6 months ago (in November) I think it's fair to say that there aren't many updates!

I can certainly verify, and not just because I am a team member for RS2, that patch 2.2 will be worth the wait (I know, I know, we always say that, but it's true!). The RS2 workhorses have been doing some amazing work behind the scenes.

exellent work on the lightning tone
i don't understand why some people ask for re-texturing units? ok, i only played the roman campaign and a short armenia campaign for now, but the units in RSII are the best textured units i ever have seen, especially for the old engine from RTW. most of the units looks much better as the medieval 2 ones!

RSII Team .. take your time and once again THANK YOU SO MUCH for the great modification, on which i spend lots of hours and hours to play it!!

    regards,
The night was so black, as we planned to attack!

Sadly not, but we can safely say that buildings are going to get a bit more focus now.
