Thread: How to change a region's special resources.

  1. #1

Default How to change a region's special resources.

Why would you want to do this? Lets say you enjoy the Tokugawa and their ninja bonuses, but you want the ninja resource in your capital. Lets say you like the Chosokabe, but hate capturing Buzen to make your sweet ass archery range for the accuracy bonuses. Now you give your home city the good resource you want.

Make yourself a new mod by using the pack manager. All you will need to add is data/campaigns/jap_shogun/startpos.esf

    Once inside, navigate to CAMPAIGN_STARTPOS -> CAMPAIGN_ENV -> CAMPAIGN_MODEL -> WORLD -> REGION_MANAGER -> REGIONS_ARRAY -> [find your region]

The regions are numbered 1-67. Use this info to help yourself remember where your region is.
When you are in your region specific array, navigate to REGION -> REGION_SLOT_MANAGER -> REGION_SLOT_ARRAY

The arrays inside here are the data tables for the building slots you see in game. Generally speaking, it goes:
    0-4 - Generic
    5 - Castle
    6 - Rice/farms
    7 - Port
    8 - Special resource

Navigate down to the final BUILDING level of the bottom one, you'll see 5 lines. I have no idea what the first two lines do. The third line is the building ID. This is what you'll be changing. The 4th is the owner, and the 5th doesn't really apply to Shogun.

The third line will be one of these, and they are self explanatory:
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Craftwork_1_Artisans
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Iron_Mining_1_Iron_Mine
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Stone_1_Stonemason
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Smithing_1_Blacksmith
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Horses_1_Pastures
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Intellectual_Centre_1_School
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Holy_Site_1_Holy_Site
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Gold_Mining_1_Surface_Mining
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Naval_1_Merchant_Colony
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Timber_1_Lumbercamp
    SHO_Region_Specialty_Ninja_1_Hideout

Change these around as you see fit. Thats it!

I'm pretty sure thats it. Hopefully this helps someone.

Dude, can you spell out what you did here?

And Boss, many thanks for finding this out, been wanting to mod the regions for ages. After couple hours tonight i think ive just about got what youre talking about. One thing though, For regions without a speciality, like Musashi, i changed the farm to artisans - and the farm disappears - so how does one create a 'fourth' slot, like most regions have? I tried just copy/paste, but theyre all numbered and i got CTD. Any ideas?

    thx again.

Edit: aah sorted the farming mr hoon, no worries.

Ive changed the special resources for a region yes, like adding artisans to tosa for the chosokabe. But i had to replace the wood to do so - i havent figured out how to add an extra slot to any region. Dunno if anyone has, or if its even possible

Is there anyway to add more than one farm or one special resource building to a province?

No i meant region slots, not castle slots. For example, regions without a special resource only have 3 slots - and i cant figure out how to add a 4th, like all the resource regions.

Okay TC3,this is not possible,i've do that but can't cause need too to do with the map too,i think.causee need too tell where the special resource should be in region.or the harbour.Sorry.
i always get ctd, when try add a special resource at Owari or other city whitout the a special resource,Sorry..and has no problem with add the Castle slots with 4 or 5 buildings.and make high fertile soil too.

I should note that I haven't been able to get this to work since the the patch at the end of July (Patch7?)

If anyone has been able to fix this please let me know. It is possible it is because I tried making a new pack after the patch, and that pre-patch packs work.

Tried this for a while today, but I keep getting errors in the esf editor either when I try to open a + box, when I try to save the esf, or just when I try to open an edited copy that supposedly saved successfully. Eventually I finally thought I had made a good one, so I put it in a pack and loaded it up, and nothing in-game was changed.

[Edit] Okay switched to an older version of esf editor (1.4.6) and just edited a savegame instead of editing the esf and making a mod, and that did the trick.

I've got everything up to the point where I change the resources for the provinces in PFM, but what's the next step? How do I change this into a mod?

Here's a quick question... Does anyone know how to change the resource minimap? It's all wrong after changing the resources in ESF.

For clarification: I've edited the Encyclopedia map already, I'm talking about the minimap .

    Hi,

I am using MMS in conjunction with Assembly Kit. I just bought shogun 2 package from steam and Im really frustrated becos all my mods are not working. Ive followed the tutorials closely and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. This thread does not really help me in respect to using MMS and AK? I am not sure as this is the first attempt to mod. PLEASE HELP....
