Date Question

Quick thought the other day, probably been addressed already, but I'm curious; Why do the Date start in Iwate? Only the Southernmost part of Iwate can be considered part of Date-Han, the rest was Nambu-Han. When I go to Sendai, there's a statue of Masamune at the foundation of what used to be an old castle. Around here (Ichinoseki, Morioka, Oshu), this is not Date territory.

Shouldn't the Date start in Miyagi?
