    Default [Artifex] Finch (Patron:Omnipotent-Q)

    Finch's Paragraph!
Hello everyone! I’m Finch and I have been here on Total War Center for a long time now. What really interests me in being active here and was the real draw for me to come to this wonderful site initially is "modding".

When I was still a weee lad back then when I joined, I was downloading and playing modifications big and small, and quickly went through all the tutorials to learn how to mod, eventually starting my very own sub-mod for Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae. My first try at modding was my Terrae Expugnandae Extreme Mod - the aim of the sub-mod of which was to fix the errorless crash-to-desktop's of Lusted's great work, but so far after thousands of code line fixes, and new models as well as textures I was not able to find the root cause of the errorless ctd’s. Lusted gave me pointers in order for me to be directed to what could have been causing the crash bug, but I’m sad to say it didn’t work but it didn’t stop me on my TWC modding adventure.

Instead it motivated me to do more, so what I thought was that I needed to do everything from scratch, so I looked around the downloads section and did some research on how I could do that and alas what do I see?! "How to do a modfolder/neutralised senate mod" by makanyane. I learned a lot from it and it inspired me to go forward and create the sub-mod I made for Lusteds Terrae Expugnandae. My first step was to create an updated version of my_mod , and released it as a mod resource so that everyone would have an idea on how to create a mod-folder with the files included and eventually get an idea on how to do some modding.

It was a push for more modifications of Rome Total War, and then after that I decided to push it further. Using my_mod files as a base I created my very own modification called Terrae Expugnandae Extreme mod . It is where I put everything I learned about modding, including lots and lots of editing on txt files, textures, and models. Right now I’m still working with new campaign scripts for other factions. It also has lots of cool features including the likes of the "projectiles stay longer fix" by wlesmana, so why not give the mod a try? I'm also a member of Roma Vice Total War where my main efforts have been fixes on models and coded .txt files. Additionally, I also have an ongoing tutorial for 3dsmax users, which i just started because I have never seen a tutorial like that before on TWC and those who have an interest in 3dsmax modelling - a key skill for many a Total War modder, would have an idea on what they are going into. It is still a work in progress but it will be completed within this year.

I also try my best to assist new members and modders with modding questions or with technical problems, because it is one way for me to repay all the wonderful modders who also helped me out along the way and assisted me when I was still new to modding. This is what make's this community really awesome that there is always a helping hand around the corner. This of course is what brings me to you ladies and gentlemen. If you see it fit, I would like to join the ranks as a citizen - a few weeks back i volunteered to become an assistant curator seeing to it that it would be another way for me to contribute to this blessed community and I wrote to Omnipotent-Q about that. One of the requirements is being a citizen, so if granted it, I'd like to lend a hand if possible. Being a citizen will allow me to contribute more to this site because it will open new doors for me like being an assistant curator which had citizenship as one of the requirements or maybe a local moderator, but i will not stop there I will say this to you now. Also I would like to have a say on decisions made on this site, as I for one support the establishment of the modding vault. Modifications is what made this site the way it is today, that's my opinion about that and what would this site be without those modifications that played a major role bringing this community together? That is why I’m here right now, in front of you citizens, CdeC and staff, if I deserve the rank of citizenship, I leave the decision to you.

Hoping to hear from you soon, take care, with sincerest gratitude and best regards,

    Finch.

    Omnipotent-Q's paragraph thingyEsteemed councillors,

Finch (formerly known as Divus) is a keen modding enthusiast of whom started his Total War modding story at Total War Center, and still continues to this day. On requesting volunteers to take part in running in the Curia in my Assistant Curator thread – he was one of the first to offer his assistance, and it's a pattern I’ve always noticed in him – always willing to help where needed where his knowledge and eagerness to continually learn could be of benefit. I was wholly surprised a normal member had such a very good grasp of the Curia and how it operates, while also being down on the ground in the modding community – answering questions where people are in need, getting involved in modding projects – writing tutorials for those like him once upon a time, who are just starting out on their journey on the seas of game modifications. Some of his work is in his fairly new created "Finch’s Workshop" in the Graphics Workshop.

One of the most noteworthy modding contributions he’s made has been that of Finch’s released Terrae Expugnandae Extreme Mod – now on version 2.0 (One thread on it here ). A particular favourite mod I’ve played in Rome Total War, Finch took the great work of Jack Lusted and his very popular mod to bring an even more extreme experience to Expugnandae, with contributors ranging from Halie Satanus, Darth Vader and the Roma Surrectum team – his mod brought together some of the best the RTW modding community had to offer, and made it work well together, with a large array of Finch’s improvements in fields ranging from AI, battles, units and the game environment.

Finch also has a technical background of which could easily be of benefit to the Curia. On more than one occasion he’s Private Messaged me with stuff to consider on matters being discussed by the Curia. Here are two examples – the first one’s related to [Decision] Modding Vault and the latter’s related to [Decision] Purchase the RTW Game Engine.

    So you’ve got:
    • Keen to be involved in the Curia
    • Keen to continue helping out members, and junior modders in need
    • A modding CV including a released modification that’s gone down well in the community.
    • ‘nuff said!

For anyone getting the broken link that I am for the Terra Mod, here is the correct link to the thread. Not sure if it's just me, but the Terra Mod links weren't working. Might want to check them.

Also, regarding the contents of his modding profile thread, note that everything under currents projects is linked.
