I've mentioned it elsewhere, since I can't figure it out, but is there any way to mod naval bombardments? Make them more or less accurate, mod the maximum uses, the number of shells fired, cooldown, etc? As comfortable as I've become with modding this game, I can't for the life of me figure out how to change any of that stuff

Already did that in my Total Overhaul and Experience mods.

Couldn't find a general discussion thread so thought i'd use this one for my question. I haven't played vanilla Shogun II at all. Im planning on buying the Shogun II and FotS pack. Would you suggest playing the vanilla game first and then installing the mod (so that i get both vanilla and the mod experiences)? Or just jump straight in and play with your mod from the start?

Thats completely up to you Sir, some people cant even touch vanilla game, i suggest to read all info about my mods, if you like changes in them very much and if you think you want them in the game then there is no reason why waste time with the vanilla experience

Imo, any veteran gamer of the Total War series would find vanilla Shogun II fairly unsatisfactory.

The modded versions--in this case Radious Mod--fixes so many unofficial bugs and AI and diplomatic deficiencies, that it's almost a different game. Radious's mod is also extremely modular, which can be used to microtune customization depending on how far--or close--to the vanilla schema you wish to play.

Thanks for the comments. Traditionally I've always played the vanilla versions of TW games upon release and then went on to the mods. But since I've never been interested in the history of Japan that much I had decided that Shogun II will be the first ever TW game I would skip. However, I'm starting to change my mind seeing the great amount of content released (both by CA and the modders). I may still try the vanilla game first just so that I can taste the changes of the mods better.

If you wish to savor the complexities of Shogun II as fully as possible, then at least a brief foray into vanilla is advisable--if only to more fully value the contributions of the modding community.
And to compare/contrast the modders' work with vanilla in order to select the degrees of customization you wish to incorporate into your modded game.

Both the Radious and Darth mods are customizable; with the former being exceptionally so. I've played both fairly extensively, and find it at times hard to choose a favorite. This is complicated by the fact that both of them have incorporated many of the same enhancements over vanilla.

But I especially like the way Radious has increased unit morale and defense values to insure that units don't break instantly in the first shock of combat, but need to be ground down first. This makes tactical combat a lot more challenging than with Darthmod, where shock makes routing enemy units quite easy, and makes the tactical part of the game way to easy imo.

But Radious mod lowers unit costs considerably, which results in mega-stack mega-combat by mid-game...which at times I like and at times don't. It also makes most, if not all, unique and special clan units available to pretty much every faction, after building appropriate infrastructure. This is a two-edged sword, imo, as it's fun to play with the unique units..but makes mid- to late-game stack quality a walk-over, as with a Drydock, for example, you can train up Ronin melee units that are among the best in the game. The AI rarely builds stacks with as much quality.

Another example is the Loan Sword Ashigaru unit, formerly available only to the Ikko Ikki, which is available from day 1 by any faction, and with some modest upgrades serves as a cheap and effective anti-spear unit well into mid-game, and a solid garrison unit into the late-game. Yet other examples include Great Guard Bow Cavalry, Christian Matchlock Samurai, Wako Katanas, and Bow Warrior Monks, all of which are far more available than in vanilla or the other mods. Guess what units my late-game armies are composed almost exclusively of?

But again, because the mod is modular, you can choose to play with only vanilla unit selections.

Thanks for letting us the opportunity to give suggestions and btw thanks for your mods, special mention to your unit packs.

    Suggestions for your mods

    • Rework Ninja cavalry - Unit pack 2.
I saw that you gifted Ninja cavalry with stealth (passive and active hiding).
I think you should not gift them with those. Cavalry is not really stealthy.

    • Buildings upgrades
Encampment > Master armourer and bowmakers are broken. Luckily it's not that much a big deal because there are versions of your mods without those upgrades, but I come up with a good suggestion to fix that anyway.
There are 2 problems right now with such upgrades
    a) You can't really undo the upgrades, if you try to do so, you'll end up with fletcher or armoury (the land buildings) and the game doesn't allow you to destroy land buildings.
    b) Building 5 master armourer or 5 master bowmakers in the same provinces allow you to make up really broken units (this is the most broken part).

My suggestion is that you should not be able to stack bonuses for one kind of building.
    For instance:
    - Master armourer = +3 armour
If you build 2 master armourer building will remain +3 armour
Then if you got armourer + master armourer on a province, youll get +5 armour.
But if you try to get more armourer or master armourer on the same province, youll not get more than +5 armour.

The mod would still be entertaining for some people because they will be able to get master armourer/bowmaker on every province they want to, but the cost will be heavier than in the provinces where such buildings are present on lands.

    Fresh idea

    • Sabotage your gates
Enemy is at your gates, it needs one turn to reach your city, on the other hand you can't defend the city, you know that the enemy will capture it. You can then decide to destroy your gates so that the city will be easier to re-capture if your army is quick enough to get there in time.
I suppose it will mess with balance since AI will probly not use it, but ppl might enjoy such mod anyway.

I was wrong about ninja cavalry they do not have active/passive hiding. Sry I guess, I missread that somewhere.

I've another suggestion, very important to me.
It seems that some units cannot flame buildings (tower, gates).
It is the case for Kisho ninja, and I think it is also the case for archers, would it be possible to change that so all units can flame buildings?

also revamping geisha could be cool, they seem pretty useless to me right now and far less effective than a master ninja.
+ they need a large investment in both money and research to be produced.
A cool think would be to gift them with the ability to ''sabotage'' an army.

unlimited agents could be overpowered but with some cost balance, could be legit.
x2-3 to hiring prices + some upkeep cost (70/turn?).
Maybe reduce the cost for some factions
    Tokugawa/Hattori for ninja.

I would be really honored to have your opinion on my suggestions Radious, maybe Im asking for indecent stuff, let me know

Personally I'd like to see Geisha have ability to Sabotage Building, Bribe Army, Demoralize Army. Being intelligence operatives, they could very well have other abilities besides assassination.

Once more I was wrong about something, and Im really sorry for that, for next posts ill try to double-check everything.
Every unit can flame buildings but, if you want to torch buildings with kisho ninja, archers or any ranged unit, you need to switch to melee attack.

    Hello Radious!
I hope all is well in your world! I was wondering if perhaps you would take into consideration the topic of expanding a clan that was considered a "minor" clan by CA within the vanilla version of the game, but had been argued as a major clan (historically speaking) on many of the total war forums, the mighty Otomo clan. They were noted as the clan that truly opened up parts of Japan to the world of western trade, specifically in terms of the game, that would mean firearms and ships. I was thinking that perhaps you could replace a vanilla clan with Otomo, as well as give them bonuses to trade tariffs, early access to firearms through the research tree or improved firearm units over other clans, and perhaps even revamp their mon color schemes? With fall of the samurai being such a hit, would it not be fun to play as one of the overlooked clans that served as a major source of western firearms? Also, it would breathe even more life into the original campaign as well. I've seen others attempt or discuss this in the forums, but no one seems dedicated enough to see it through, or produce the quality we all have come to know within your work. I know that you are busy and this could take time, but if anyone was capable of it, I believe you are the man to do it. Thank for the mods radious! Hope to hear back from you soon!

Hey, I'm using most of your mods and I've found something strange. This is probably common knowledge, but is it correct that you aren't supposed to be able to recruit Kisho Ninja from the Sake Den upgrades and only from the Ninjutsu schools preplaced on the map? Since there are only 3 of those on the map in very close proximity it makes it near impossible to get Kishos unless you're Hattori or take it from them.

Yes that is purpose since i released my Unit Pack 2, which has its own ninja rouster (about 8 ninja units all in ninja building in the city). So original ninjas were moved to special region buildings. Same for Wako units were moved to pirate lairs since Unit Pack 2 has again pirate units rouster which can be found in market buildings.

I wrote this already, might as well write in the proper topic,

Radious, would u consider adding the (ugly horo) removal mod? The horo removal mod by hedgeknight no longer works with the latest update and i'm fairly certain many would appreciate such an implemention in your "fixes and features" mod

So please would u consider removing the horos ? They really make the general bodyguards look liek bloated hunchbacks and ruin the visual effect of battles :/

I never had problems with horos (do they really look so bad?) and not many people really complained about it. Second i would have to create more versions of plenty of my mods, which would create bigger mess and troubles with updating them with CA regular patches/dlcs.

They truly ruin the whole view :/ it would be impossible to perform most of the moves in reality with those baloons on the back, would u consider adding them as a feature in one of your current optional versions pls ?
