The Viet Cong forces, after being ordered south by their PAVN Counterparts, have collided with the Marine Expeditionary Force just south of the DMZ, near the town of Xom Lap.

The Viet Cong in the Center and Right of their formation head to attack the American Left, while the remainder of the Viet Cong Irregulers and the Viet Cong Infantry move forward to divert the Americans' attention from their comrades. The American Artillery and Tanks begin firing, causing light casualties to the North Vietnamese forces. The VC forces continue moving forward.

As the VC forces surge forward, they concentrate fire on the American Left; VC Irregulars charge up the hill in wave after wave, supported by fire from the Regulars. The relatively small amount of American Armor and Artillery there, coupled with the ferocity of the VC attack, leads to many American fatalities.

...and they explode with a fury near the American lines, killing dozens, if not hundreds, of American troops. However, to compensate for this, the Americans call in more Air Cavalry and shift several tanks to their left, opening up a critically large, armor-devoid gap in their line...
