And if you did get ambushed you won the battle??

You won the ambush??? thats umm impossible???

I dont think anyone here has actually won the ambush. I havent.

Every time I let Hannibal ambush me (by trying to move Nepos away with his army), the AI lines up all their troops on only one side of mine.

What I mean is that he doesn't surround me from the start, he just lines up his troops on my left and charges at me...

For some reason the AI won't utilise the ability to deploy on my right side when I'm in the column formation at the start of a battle, so it's closer to a normal battle than an ambush really. So it's just as easy for me to beat him via ambush as any other method...

Anyone else had this happen to them???

Well my story is sad. I lost to him 2 times then i seant my faction leder to wipe him out and one the very first volley of arrows about 2 minutes into the game he dies... then i routed his naked fanatics........ that unit is tooooooo realistic.

Actually I do have exams at the moment...

But my next is only monday, so I've got a week - took a little bit of time yesterday to start playing again; a new campaign with the Romans.

I lost the battle with Hannibal, but I did manage to kill him.

Now the Carthaginians are leaving me alone for some turns already, but I've got the Roman Rebels to counter - enough to do, in other words.

It's a shame I have to wait a week before I start playing again.

But I'd rather like to pass this exam and be able to play some RSII in the summer holidays than studying to do my exam again...

PS: I'm playing H/H.

I barely managed to beat him on hard. It had to be one of the closest fights I've ever fought against the ai but after I killed the man himself the rest of his army slowly began to rout

i win under VH/VH,i just follow Alexcander's method,that is make my left wing toward Hannibal's center and my center toward Hannibal's left wing,then my right wing can attack from Hannibal's back!Besides,make the general staying at the hardest battle line and use the 'F' key to encourage the soliders

This is my VH victory - yes, i was lucky, my infantry took some attention from numidian cav and Hannibal unit try to attack my lonely General unit, but i hold rest of my cav near enough - from that point, it was easy

I too won on VH but instead of being ambushed it was a regular fight.

Not sure why I wasn't ambushed

but I won so, Who Cares!!

On a more serious note I brought as much cavalry as I could and tried to use them as effectively as I could.
That is really what won me the battle!!

dont think ive ever lost that battle, playing as either side. with that said, I have lost some armies here and there, I love this game.

In my 1st campaign he beat me but only after i inflicted heavy losses to his army, however in my 2nd campaign i managed to defeat his army after killing him.

im 4-1 against hannibal on vh/vh. i use cav reinforcement tho so i guess thats cheating. maybe some day i'll try it without it

i think its cause this topic still has relevance and o yea i killed hannibal routed his whole right flank with his left buckling while his cavalry ran in circles confused and then when i charged into the BACK of spearmen my general instantly died and ALL my men ran
