To encourage smaller numbers of units like viking raiders the developers could make their upkeep nonexistent. Because if the cost to maintain is so small compared to the lowest and smallest size it wouldnt really make a difference to the player.

Yeah but sometimes smaller states would have larger populations than larger states. You could have 10 regions of villages vs 2 regions with cities? Who would be able to recruit more units?
Monkey sphere - in RL bands have an optimal size of around 150, give or take, so a larger one might slightly lag in execution, and a smaller one might be faster in reaction.

Easy, each region has a specific limit for each unit type (sometime 0).

I kind of have a NON-feature request: Archers will have greater range on a hill. That along with vendor specific pre-order faction bonuses were the few things that really bother me about Shogun 2. Your justification for the archer nerf was to "prevent hill camping on multiplayer". At least you could've kept it on for, I don't know, the historically based campaign!! :/

Greater projectile range from a height is a no-brainer. It's unbelievable that CA would think otherwise. Can't get much more arcade than that.

    1 - Prevent Unit Cards From Re-Shuffling.

If a unit is in a card group of say four or five and it routs or is wiped out just put a bloody great X through it or turn it red to alert the player, don't kick it and re-shuffle the deck.

If reinforcements are available the player can then remove that units card from play allowing a fresh unit to enter the field.

I've lost count of how many battles I've lost across the TW series from the cards re-shuffling and my not knowing who's where.

2 When a Unit Card is Stacked/Locked in a Group Don't Allow it to be Dragged Out

I still don't know how I sometimes accidentally drag cards from groups by accident, it's bloody infuriating.

3 Add Filters for DLC Games and Non DLC Games.

I don't think it's right or fair that dlc armies and vanilla armies are "matched". They're not. There's nothing wrong with having dlcs but some people don't have them and it feels pointless facing an army composed of units that are unavailable to one party but fielded by the other. Just add a simple filter.

Of course, they could`ve made it realistic for SP Campaigns as DavidtheDuke says and just let the MP people have their `no camp` archers.

Multiplayer. Ca wants to please MP. Then again CA could have just said `NO` and let archers have that longer range on hills and (in the case of FOTS) shorter range then rifles.
A plea to CA: Please give us NON-STEAM OPTIONS such as with GOG.COM`s Alan Wake and Witcher 2, etc. Even allow a system such that Mount and Blade Uses. Many of us will pay extra for a Steam-free version of RTW2.
The use of STEAM-ONLY by CA is ethically wrong because:
    1. It does not need to be forced. It could be optional as other games have proven.
    2. It discriminates between internet users and non-users or those who simply do not want it.
    3. The `advantages` are only advantages in a very small and superficial manner. They do not counter the disadvantages.
    4. It suits the company way more than the user. We are simply told it`s better for us
Finally,I shall not give CA|SEGA my money for RTW2 while it forces Steam on me. They have given us no good reason why it must be so. Basically they don`t care.

A Steam Option would benefit ALL. Don`t fight us, JOIN us.
    Games don`t need forced Steam

While this might be too late for Shogun 2, the option to upgrade veteran units as subcommanders, giving them downgraded General abilities, and thus, in Multiplayer mode, giving an option for a cheap Commanding Officer.

From what ive read, units shouldnt gain a range bonus in a hill, enemy range units should get a ranged penalty when attacking units on a hill. Now if the hill is very high it should give a range bonus, but from what ive read anything less then 500m isnt a significant advantage.
    My mods
-Mod Leader for the Wheel Of Time This is not the beginning, but it is a beginning
-Mod Leader for Shogun 2: Foreign Invasion if you want a mod with alot of units this is for you, not only is there the 40 units CA made theres planned to be atleast 177 NEW units when its done.
-Modder in the World War I and Shogun II project. The only full scale mod for FOTS and it plays nothing like FOTS. FOTS may have Gatling guns, WW1&S2 has tekidanto samurai, SNLF, MGs, kisho snipers, assault infantry(shotguns) just to name a few.

Its the combination of the two that adds up.

Better unit control. Sorry if this has been fixed in Shogun or Napoleon(My only expirence is with Empire) but it is HORRIBLE. Half the time the units don't do anything and keep fighting. Also, pathfinding, in the same vein. And modding tools as well.

Please let your final patch for Shogun 2 be a proper SDK so we can make Shogun 2 a gem to go back to instead of another Napoleon.

Make Units Customizable even in a grand campaign.

I can customise my units in mp S2 which is great. Playing Tokugawa I can't customise my units and so they all look the same and can be very confusing in a big battle.

Make the units fully cusomisable for whatever tribe/clan the player is playing.

Just make the next game stable. There is nothing more frustrating than the possibility of a ctd when you start a battle, or when you win a battle, or during a battle, or when you click a button, or...

since it is possible to choose betwen direct x 9, 10 or 11 shogun 2 crashes way to often. frustrating, almost unplayable.

Back in RTW and M2TW players had the ability to open a text box which allowed them to type things such as 'process_cq', if you applied that to ETW and all games after that (but maybe restrict it to players that complete the campaign so they actually get a feel for the game itself) to spice it up a bit. I think that would be a big hit, for at least.

Secondly, I think having the ability to change the government type should be looked at in more detail. In reality there are countless different types of gorverning systems (maybe even add a tool to design your own type) but in ETW and NTW the focus is only on Absolute/Constitutional Monarchies and Republics. In addition, religion plays little to know part in the Total War series after M2TW so I think having religion as a key part of a the campaign as it was before would also be a hit. Just add all (or at least more) religions because, again, in reality there are countless religions.
With more choice for religion, political and economical systems etc a higher level of realism will be achieved.

Also, here is a few thoughts for game ideas. 1: A 19th-21st Century Total War, progression from ETW into modern day. 2: A Total War game set in the future, a completely blank canvas and no rules. 3: Assassin's Creed Total War, Assassins v Templars (set within society but independent of any state) set amongst any or all timeframes, or play as a standard faction such as; England, France, Italy, United Provinces etc (factions dependent on the time game is set in).

If any of this was to be considered I would become an even bigger fan of the Total War saga.
    Cheers,
    E.

Others may have mentioned this, but it's deserving of another spotlight:

An easy change that would enhance modding is the ability to null a vanilla value without having to set it to 0 or even add a new counter effect. Replacement-only tables are very frustrating and over-complicated.

I'll plead for only one thing:

PLEASE MAKE A COMPLETE EDITION OF THE GAME!

I loved the Napoleon-Empire GOTY Edition. It was utterly satisfying to play with 'complete' game which has all special units. Especially for Empire, I loved it. Napoleon too.

I am not requesting any gameplay changes because game is already good as it is. But I cannot purchase DLCs because my credit card has been stolen and my next one is years away. I am a lover of Japan and it's history, so please CA, release a complete edition of the game, which comes in with all DLCs. Please release one for Fall of the Samurai as well. Since you are focused on Rome II, I hope you can direct someone to compile all of them together and make a grand edition.

    Something like this:
TOTAL WAR: Shogun II - Grand Edition

    It should include:

    > Ikko-Ikki clan pack DLC
    > Hattori clan pack DLC

    > Sengoku Jidai unit pack DLC
    > Optional installer of Blood pack implemented
And for FoTS with it's DLCs.

And a combined edition of of Shogun II and FoTS with all their DLCs.

Please CA, I beg you, I plead you. This is what you can easily do.

    FEATURE REQUESTS FOR ROME II

    Regions distribution system:

The pre-Roman territories should depict their former distribution rather than the Roman one, wich should only come to be in the event of a Roman conquer, else they would show an organization based on the tribes taht dwelled each area: Gaul,Hispania, Britain, Eire, Germany and the Balcans were divided after the tribes ( mayor ones).
For instance, Gaul was Arvernia, Boii, Trinovantes, Belgae, Helvetii, Redoni, Sequani, Aedui, Santoni, Allebroges, Voconti, Volcae, and Aquitani.

Territories named after the mayor tribes.

In fact, studying Roman conquest reveals it was done over the base of the tribes.

This is specially certain in the case of Hispania; there's no way the conquest can bear the slightest historical resemblance using the Roman territorial division, cause the highest levels of the conflict were the submittance of the northern tribes of the Iberian Celts, the Cantabrian and the Asturian, which would be all roughly massed in the Tarraconensis and Gallaecia Roman provinces.
This is also true for the Basques, a unique , most ancient peoples dwelling the western Pyrinees and surrounding lands, which were tradicional rivals to the surrounding Celts, which should actually be given their own faction the reflect this fact.

This fight -the Cantabrian and Asturian wars- got to epic (and most foul) levels never seen before. So in order to depict this, the old lands distribution is indispensable.

Once the required barbarian regions are taken their limits will fade to melt into the bigger Roman ones, their capitals transformed into a special kind of minor settlements.

If the Roman region is regained by the barbarians, or if the barbarian set of regions is conquered by a civilized non Roman faction, they can chose wether to maintain the or bring back the barbarian distribution or to use the Roman sort.

    The like of this:

    http://www.excolar.net/download/file.php?id=242

    http://www.celtnet.org.uk/images/ukmap_large.gif

    ·

Tribal cohesion: the historical performance of the celtic tribes depended on wether they united effectively against Rome or not. So the main worries of a barabrian ruler should be around gathering his fellowmen, as much a Roman one should be to bride it into not intervention or bringing to his side the tribes (think of the Gaul wars and Vercingetorix and Julius Caesar).
This could apply also for the Germans.

And this should somehow find a reflection into the game.

    ·

Mercs: Mercenaries were a very integral part of the previous Rome Total War, that should be kept in Rome II: Total War for the shake of its flavour.

And make a Cantabrian warriors merc. unit, please, they were highly renowned for their power among all Roman generals. It's a must. (long haired barbarians equipping wooden shield, axe and javelins).
    ·

Main historical characters: Vercingetorix, Caesar, Boudicca, Viriato, Corocotta, Hanibal Barca and so on appearing in-game.
    ·

Main historical places: the mayor cities of the ancinet world such as Gergovia, Teutoburg, Trier, Numantia, Carthago, Rome itself, Sparta, Athens, Alexandria and Babylon should be depicted after their historical counterparts.
    ·
Customizable units plus new units equipment system: A gaul sword warriors unit may look diferent to next one unit of the same type...(allowing cosmetic differences between units of the same type). This look would be chosen randomly by the game from several pre-built patterns (and at least let this for the moders to mod).

New equippement system: The armor upgrades should cost money, so that its not the same for you to equip warriors dressed in chainmail than in leather or in no armor at all, even when you have the the proper upgrade building, it should mean additional cost to provide all those armor items...
    ·

Galati: Galatian Gauls Greek & Anatolian invasion should be depicted in game. (Galatians starting as part of the Gaul faction & sliting into separate faction later on).
    ·

    The Cantabrian wars.
    ·

The Celtic chieftains with their proper torqueses on their necks, please.

    http://www.thehistoryblog.com/wp-con...ing-torc-4.JPG

    ·

Falcatae: falcatas were much evolutioned versions of the Greek kopis sword by the Iberian blacksmiths. They need to be properly depicted in Rome II asa what they are instead of those poor models used in former Rome t.w.

Most Iberian and Celt-Iberian units would equip it, as it was the hit in that time.

Also legionary cohoors trained in Hispania should have the choice to equip it (it inproves the attack, has agaist armor bonus, and raises terror), as it was historicaly done ("it is right to learn from the enemy").
Although Roman falcatae didn't match the superb quality of the steel of Iberic ones.

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_JK8mviw_3e...s400/falca.jpg

    ·

Pre-Roman Spain: the Iberian peninsula at this time is not even the shadow of a country; instead it's a collage of peoples of different origins.
In adition to the factions that were in Rome Total War, there should also be: The Iberian Celts (not just more Gauls...) and the Basques in the Gulf of Biscai and the Pyrinees).
The Iberian Celts should also have a different panteon than the Gauls- main Gods: Lug (-panceltic-Grand God, -father of all crafts and skills, specially metalworks), Deva (Mother and waters Godess, caregiver and healer) and Coso (fierce wargod).
The Basques would mainly worship Mari (quite similar to Dana, has a mother-land role).
    ·

Would it be too much ask for an optional 30 or 40 units battle interface?
    ·

Modder friendly: Let the modders to enhace your great work, please, don't fear them. Don't harcode the campaign maps nor the scripts if possible.

I beg you to carefully consider my suggestions, because I think they'd really contribute to make that gorgeous game you are just seeking, though I am aware that implementing this would seriously affect your datings for the release, but the result is absolutely worth it.

64-bit Processor support would be my primary concern. There's no reason not to. There's no 32-bit hardware which will run Total War games anymore.
