[Contest] Get Your Voice into The Dominion of Men

Yes, we are offering the opportunity for Fourth Age: Total War supporters to go up in street cred among their friends by using their voices to cover some of the units in our new campaign factions!

The FATW Team is looking for voice actors for their Elven, Dwarven and Northmen units. So download the free Audacity software and get yourself a cheap microphone and record one or more of the list items below.

You can post your samples here, or you can PM them to Aradan or MasterOfNone. Please name the file/s in a manner whereby the culture, unit name and your name are known. E.g. MasterOfNone_Dwarven_EnginesOfWar.wav


NOTE: When opening Audacity you should set the Project Rate (bottom left) to 22050 Hz and export the recorded voice in .WAV format.
Also make sure that the file is a mono (only one audio channel) and the audio sample size is 16 bits. Audacity defaults to those values, but you can check to be on the safe side.


TIPS: Avoid breathing on the microphone. Having the mic slightly to the side of your mouth (as with a headset) and having a tissue or handkerchief over it can help avoid exhaled breath being recorded. Remember to speak in a loud but controlled manner.

NOTE: Please zip or rar the file if using TWC to attach it to your post. TWC does not accept .wav attachments.

I ask because I'm curious what exactly you want us to say.

Did you already record some things? There are always several phrases a unit says, like "Riddermark Spears", "Spears of the Riddermark", or simply "Spears". So, just recording "Swordsmen" is somewhat, well, boring. There are several types of swordsmen for most faction.

For Elves some Sindarin would be great. How many voice files can be assigned to one unit anyway?

Actually I'd really like to have some more diversity. The voices are intended to be a feedback for the player. So, if you want to move your axemen and you hear "Riddermark Spears" you'll notice you've the wrong unit.
Dunno how other players thing about this, but I don't really need this confirmation. I think it would be really great if some units shout a battle-cry like "Forth Eorlingas", "Helm, Helm", "Amroth for Gondor" or "Gurth an Glamhoth" when clicking at them.

"Swords" or "Spears" might be boring, but it saves us having to record 2-3 voices x amount of units in-game, and also every time we rename or add a unit, we don't need to record a new voice.

I hope you realise having a good, unique voice-over for every single unit in the mod is a huge task. We believe it was a corner worth cutting.

Battle-cries like the ones you posted above are in our plans, but only after the basic stuff are done. Also, unique voices for 'special' units. But again, only after the basics are done. This stage (basic voices) will help us identify the voice-actors with the most potential, who will then be given the more unique voices to do.


EDIT: A unit can have many voices. Sindarin would be nice for Elves, if we could find someone with the right voice and pronunciation.

I'll give this a go. Although I think my West Country accent wouldn't be suited for Elves xD so I might try Dwarves instead I could yell "Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!"

This is the problem, if they needed voices for Hobbit units then it would be easy but I can't be fussy. will give Dwarves a shot regardless.

i have done a sample but when ova i try to upload it, it keeps saying invalid file, i hav made it wav, and 22050 Hz, and 16 bit.

Compress the file into .rar or .zip form before uploading it. Though it would be better if you PMd it to either me or MoN.
