TEN TOUSAND SHOVELS! TEN THOUSAND SHOVELS!!! lol
Was that some kind of retarded Imperial Guard crashing into LOTR universe or something?
Nay, the general idea was that of a flanderized Space Marine chapter from w40k, the flanderized attribute here being their single-mindedness and belief they can simply walk/charge through anything if it's in the way of their objective. In the beginning, said objective was reaching the enemy, a Chaos fleet on the other side of some planet (I keep forgetting the name of the world of Middle-Earth as a whole, was it Arda?). Thus, the Chapter Master immediately upon hearing that, commands to fly in a straight line to the enemy, THROUGH THE PLANET.
That ends as well as one can guess, they crash and can't go on. Thus, their objective still stands: TO THE ENEMY. Thus, to do that they get shovels and begin to dig. I imagine that, while the Marines are obstinate enough, their tools aren't, break and need to be replaced. Cue, sub-mission to gather all kinds of materials in order to make new ones, all the while carelessly walzing through anything on their search for such, meanwhile keeping on digging, probably striking an ocean on the way, while pulling their gargantuan ship, which is so huge it is capable of generating its own gravity field, mind you (which will most likely be the reason they will have to repair it as soon as they reach the other side, if it hasn't turned to scrap yet) quite possibly, accidentally, causing the drowning of Númenór under the sea.
Taking Barad-Dûr with them served the sole purpose of converting it into SUPERIOR shovels!
It was my fail not to get the joke across as good as I wanted... oh well

While I highly admire the concept, time, and effort you put into your post, Sithi, I kind of feel like it resembles modern art; most everyone knows that they're looking at 'art,' but they have no idea what it means!
...but once you pointed out that it was a W40K reference I got it immediately!
Yeah that is art
