This is probably the best Hipster I've ever seen. So clever, have'a'rep.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
In ancient history, there were tales, myths, about strange order of... what could be called knights, known only as the 'Obstinate Knights'. They were known to wear strange... wedgie-shaped armour with disproportional pauldrons and pyramid-like helmets. One of the strangest 'facts' about them, which is the first and foremost reason why their existence is still debated by scholars, is that they, as they had been reported to say themselves, came from 'space', a variety of 'sky' in the modern language.
These 'Obstinate Knights', that is what everyone called them whenever they saw them on their relentless single-minded stride, we called such because they would, as aforementioned earlier, pursue their 'mission' with such a single-minded aim, an aim that made them walk an almost straight line to said target. Nothing, no wall, no army, no beast could stand in their way, was simply, quite literally, overrun.
But, as there are so many absurdities, there are also quite the evidence of their existence, look here... *handles a device out of a shelf*, you see, we have no idea what this actually is, but look, if I just press this rune... *starting record*
"Sir, the Great Enemy's fleet is currently on the other side of the planet, engaged with the forces of the Imperial Navy." A rough, rasping, almost metallic voice.
"The Great Enemy is here? FULL POWER INTO THE THRUSTERS! FULL SPEED AHEAD!" Commanding, deep-pitched, used to shouting.
Suddenly, the device gives several clicking noises from it, signing several minutes/hours as 'error', then restarting to continue:
"WHY ARE WE STOPPING?" the commanding voice
"Uh, sir it appears we have crashed into the planet at full velocity..."
"WELL, GET THE SHOVELS AND DIG!"
The recording stops.
Amazing isn't it? This device actually seems to be capable of repeating what was once said so long ago!
But to continue, the tale, or rather amalgation of sightings gathered together, go on to tell how these strange knights follow the purpose of pursuing what they call 'mission', what that mission was was never really understood, but they seemed to look for all amounts of metal. There are indications that they used it to build... devices strangely akin to 'shovels'.
The last sight of one of them was at the Battle of the Last Alliance between Elven and Men at Mount Doom. It supposedly was at the climax, when Sauron stepped into the open, empowered with the might of the One Ring, Elendil and Gil-Galad had been defeated, Isildur's end seemed near. But then, both armies suddenly felt how the very ground began to tremble.
On the horizon, a new army appeared. At the very least numbering in the ten thousands, all amoured in dirty grayed plate armour, the knights, all in perfect pace in one single immense line, wandered in a straight way over anything that was in their way. Sauron in particular was such one individual. He raised his great weapon menacingly, preparing to speak words of immense power that would make men die to hear them, when we has suddenyl, literally, overrun by the first of the Obstinate Knights, to be followed by the second, the third and so son.
For several hours, the entire battlefield was divided by the army of the Obstinate Knights as they simply walked into Mordor. There, the entire line still not entirely in the blackened-land, the first of the Knights appeared, walking back almost the same way. All of them carrying massive objects, pointy, some metallic, some of blackened stone, again their way went over the still conscious Dark Lord as he struggled to rise again.
The line of knights kept on their burdens, until it was clear that they were actually dismanteling the entire fortress of Barad-Dûr, the very last hundred of the knights carrying the massive magma-entrenched foundation, their mysterious chant never changing 'TEN THOUSAND SHOVELS! TEN THOUSAND SHOVELS! TEN THOUSAND SHOVELS!' ...etc
On the way, they sometimes accidentally dropped parts of the fortress, with the unfortunate Dark Lord becrying his indignity while under them.
