Could this potentially be the LOTR Total War we never got officially?

It was just cancelled, so that seems improbable right now.

Even if it wasn't it would entirely depend on the mercy of the rights holders, if it's official it may be interesting (but see the following) and if not I think a kickstarter would be a bit like poking the bear. I've never heard of Asterisk Studios and they're not trivial to find on a quick search, and given the name of the project I assume it may take more cues from this Conquest lotr project than from Total War. Archive.org didn't catch it so if you have a copy of the page/text that would be interesting to peruse in case I'm missing something here.
