Unfortunately you are correct. He did it through political machinations, by changing the referendum law a few years ago after he evaded a previous impeachment in 2007. The new law states that there must 50%+1 of the voting population present at the vote for a referendum to be passed. Due to the fact that they used eligile voter numbers from the 2007 census (instead of the more recent 2011 census, apparently the population has dropped by a few millions since the previous one) and also due to the inertia of the population and boycotting only 46% of the eligible voters came to the vote. Although 86% of those present voted in favour of impeachment the referendum was not valid due to the low turnout.

On a happier note I am about to finish a 3 week Romanian holiday and will upload some great photos soon along with a small spill of the pluses and minuses.

Politics are politics, what counts is that the country is relatively stable and that foreigners are always welcome.

Ponor didn't look too happy after the protest for Raisman, I can't blame her, but she did seem a little off her game.

i really like how Romanian traditional architecture has combined Byzantine, Saxon, Eastern European and Romanian elements to create those interesting masterpieces!!!

Indeed. The monastery has been fully functional and never disturbed since it has been built in 1466. (Completed in 1469)

I photographed the entrance on a Sunday, and the monastery inside was packed with people attending the Sunday Mass. Traditions are still strong in the north of Romania, and it was encouraging to see so many people devoted to their traditions.
