Koultouras works on EDU ballancing under our unique point of view.
Chandax seamed to have one of the weakest rosters thanks to its limited cavalry and the existance of many javelin units.
But after a carefull stats ballance and units assignment (light,heavy,missile,skirmisers etc) Chandax has one of the most capable defensive rosters. It would be suicide for any player's army to just launch an frontal attack against them...I realised it after i lost two provincial Roman armies in open field from them.

let me add some useful information about the army of the Emirate of Crete, as my Main Postgraduate Project (κύρια διπλωματική εργασία for those from greece) is about the Unsuccesful Military Operations of the Byzantines to Reconquest Crete ca824-949 AD.

The Emirate of Crete had also "negro troops" , probably of Ethiopian origin, armed with spears on handjars (Handschar in German is the proper term) without any armour as marine assault group, used in several occasions like Thessaloniki 904 AD.

@matmohair1 yes , negro troops like the 2 pictures, more or less dressed regarding the season...! There was an Ethiopian "Palace Guard" for the Emirs of Crete but there is no evidence of battle record because it wasn't established until 911 A.D as an autonomous unit. Maybe fought against Byzantines in their disastrous campaign of 949 under the leadership of Gongyles
