Auxilia Palatine-what do we know about 'em?

Initially i was just curious about their equipment, armour in particular, and asked the all-knowing Pompeus Magnus
After receiving his answer, however, it has become clear to me that those troops continued well into the late antique and even beyond. One of the major question is whether they were styled differently than the legions, i.e. whether they were armoured as heavily as their legionary counterparts? But, of course, that's just one of the possible questions about this interesting army regiments. So, everyone's invited to say a word or two and further the debate.

thank you for the kind words - but more important: I think it's a fair question. I will try to collect some material. But I must say that I'm not a weapon specialist and I hope that many other User will share informations with us.
Without checking sources now I kwow that Vegetius mentioned one time that the Auxilia is more light equipped compared to the Legions. But If he really was talking about the elite auxillaries or auxillaries in general is something we have to elicit.
