I picked the Saxons first because of their starting location. Also because they are the only ones in this era that I am familiar with if only slightly. The first few turns have been a blast concluding in a nice siege battle. Lost half of my army but the city is mine. Take that romano-british scum!
I survived the Mayan Apocalypse 12/21/12
Catauvaluni cause they control London.
I'll probably put up a poll: Saxon-Angli or Romano British
The Jutes will be in the game eventually, possibly in the next full upgrade with more diversity with the different faction units. That should make it even more fun to play them. The Germanic factions should have some difficulties taking and holding onto their newly conquered lands. Religion plays a role in this for they are pagan, but the simulation process is extremely important for them and it may take time

romano british
When a nation forgets her skill in war, when her religion becomes a mockery, when the whole nation becomes a nation of money-grabbers, then the wild tribes, the barbarians drive in... Who will our invaders be? From whence will they come?”
― Robert E. Howard
The Seaxe of course, they're badass Germanic invaders.
Saxons and then other German tribes
Either the Saxoni or one of the other Germani...
I'll try one of the Romano-British factions. Just haven't decided which one yet- London, York, N.Wales, or Viroconium.

Hr.

They are the good guys, and I am trying to avoid adopting any family members until Ambrosianus is old enough. Sadly to expand the faction has to enter in a civil war, maybe that whats happened in Brittain, and it gave enough time to the Saxons and Angli to expand inland.
Cheers.
-Its wise to not adopt early on or be very selective. Your Royal Body Guard is the most expensive faction's unit you will most likely have. There upkeep can becoming draining to your econ.
-The civil war aspect certainly came to mind while we put the mod together and then balancing it. Hopefully IT has that feel...that historical aspect where if all or even much of Britain stayed united then certainly the Jutes-Angli/Saxons could have been held in check.

RB, "proper" Romans from Gaul are fine but I've played them for months in AW. Gildas was writing about Romano British rulers that they were worse sinners than "heathen" Saxons and that they were more busy raiding one another than checking the invaders, he written about Ambrosius:
"a gentleman who, perhaps alone of the Romans, had survived the shock of this notable storm. Certainly his parents, who had worn the purple, were slain in it. His descendants in our day have become greatly inferior to their grandfather's [avita] excellence." On the other hand Gaul being united by Aegidus and Sygarius fell to Franks after one battle in 486 where the last Romano British sucesor states were anexed in 1282 and 1532 by England and France.
