No one votes for fantasy total war. :<
Think about it! It would be the ultimate challenge, the complete test! Is CA bad enough dudes to give you the ability to create much of your own things?
glad actually people seem to stick to the essence of what tw really is. they avoid voting for eccentric unrealisric games

My shameful truth.
World War One. I've been around this franchise alive and remembering since 2006. Do a zoom in battlefield like ww1. Artillery will be more/less accurate or more heavily available via campaign decisions.
Of any software producers in the world you have the most chance.
Go on.
The depth of in-game contents is the one thing which they have never improved even a bit in so many years.
So instead of making a new game themselves, I'd propose they just create a new game engine which covers everything we ask and hire the EB/RS2/RTR/whatever team to do the real stuff. Also make it completely moddable!![]()
im not analysing in depth, but id like to comment on the character animations and general interactivity of the units i suppose mainly in melee.
I really like the varied animations in shogun 2. for me it is the best yet. (i'd like to comment that the interactivity aswell as the tracking down ability of cavalry units in NTW was really annoyingly bad in comparison to shogun2 and even RTW)
seeing mounted units chopping off infantry heads in shogun 2 ..yeah !
i love the blood dlc thumbsup.. a tad overdone but i like that.
as for the animations watching it in slomo and pretty good in shogun 2.
I realise it isnt that realistic due to the nature of the algorithms though in one specific way: (example it would be probly too much to ask but if there was an animation for taking the opportunity of backstabbing/attacking opponents not facing each other..that would add another element of animation/carnage to melee - which is a big component of this game lets be honest !!!) - but ill expand on this point a bit more because i think it is worth considering in the integral melee mechanic it is one thing that has really stood out to me in all the TW games as very unrealistic - seeing units acting like dumbos - totally exposed to attack and being ignored..and schlepping around in order to face each other to initiate an animation sequence. if rear and or flank attack animations were added at the single unit on unit scale this would make melee actions amazingly dynamic and look a lot more realistic to boot.
so..in this respect i appreciate the work done on the battle animations good work shogun 2 but it is so fundamental to the game feel, just wanted to comment on that. as for which overall theme to use (the actual thread topic) i suppose I tend to like the mixture of swords /bows and firearms in the current shogun 2 game it provides a mixture of hack and slash and modern ranged guns. I also like the artillery element in ETW, but i guess that is also present in the ancient eras in the form of onagers/ trebs and the like.
Personally im not a big fan for developing a modern warfare total war as there are so many games already that quite frankly do it better.
M3TW, R2TW...with improved carnage animations...o yeahand perhaps E2TW after that with decent cavalry this time please
and multithreading?![]()

I'm pretty sure next game will be in Victorian setting, otherwise they wouldn't make a standalone expansion set in this time frame and introducing hardware of that period. Hopefully, along with Global campaign they'll also have more indepth smaller theaters centered around major military conflicts of that time - Crimean War, American Civil War, Franco-Prussian war, Anglo-Boer war, etc.
Rome 2 wouldn't be that good. Graphics-wise it would be better, of course, but overall it won't be moddable and propbably much more primitive than its predecessor. Unless CA changes its policy on moddability and DLCs I'm not really excited for remakes of either Rome or Medieval.
I'm not sure about Victorian era; it's very similar to empire tw, except that most colonies are conquered, it's still gunpowder battles, trade supremacy and political changes. I wish a renaissance era, just between med 2 and empire, just like m&b with fire and sword ^^
Rome 2 seems the most reesonable one (even if i like rome for it's simplicity in gameplay and graphism)
Victorian hopefully, I don't want no ******* Rome 2
Rome 2 for the love of god. Although China would be cool too, but they just did Japan so I can't see that happening. Personally I don't think I'd enjoy the Victorian era- I haven't been a big fan of the gunpowder TW games.
After thinking it over, I really wouldn't mind a TW game set in the Victorian Era. I've just namely been thinking about the unification of Germany and the Franco-Prussian War.. would be extremely fun to see in a game, great precursor to WW1.

Rome 2 total War!!!! Alea iacta est!!!
I am pretty sure it will be R2TW. This was the beste game they made. With this nice engine we could manage big legions.
Of course CA has to make the game in such a way it can support up to 10 legions per side. It is meant to be epic. Not semi-epic.
Some eye-candy thing I would like to see in the next R2TW. I am agreeing with this voting Poll...so let's see:
1.The game should start in more than one periode. We should choose from 3 I suggest. Before the first and second or third Punic wars, and the last campaign start date at the time of Gaius Marius. Let's say 102 BC.
I am thinking of the same as in NTW where we had the different campaigns with Napoleon, Italy, Egypt, Europe, Waterloo.
2.Implementing a gladiator revolt, or slave revolt, just as Spartacus did in 72BC. Also including historical figures such as: Marcus Licinius Crassus, Gnaeus Pomepy Magnus and Gaius Julius Caesar.
3. Each era of starting capaign with important national figures: Scipio Amilianus, Gaius marius, Sulla, Cato, etc........... Also Tiberius Gracchus!!
4. Allegiances, populares or optimates. Each character with it's own ranking class, plebs, equestrians or patricians.
5. Offices every year, reaching from quaestor to Consul. Such as in RS2 but redefinied.
6. Civil war. Triggered by amount of popularity a certain general has.
7. Voting system, Senatorial motions to carry or not. Declare a populist general enemy of the state.
8. Donating system, giving the commoners money to help the elctions to end in your favor.
9. And many more on the gameplay................
ARMIES
1. Early Republican Cohorts, 480 men each unit. Unit divided in maniples. But still controllable as one unit!! 8 maniples.
2. Late troops, containing all of the numbered legions. (Republican Era only hamata)
3. Imperial troops after the anarchies and civil war, as the supreme ruler gets titel of Imperator. The last numbered legions (segmenta)
4. Each legions has no more than 5000 men. 9 cohorts in each legion, but the gamer can do with his armies as he wants. (unit limit with numbered legions)
5. Possibility that the legions get mutinous, they can kill your general and choose another form their ranks. Causing discontent amongst other legions and the territory where they are in.
6. ADvanced fort building capabilities. Such as besieging enemy and making own fort around enemy fort, just as Caesar did in Alesia.
7. Recruiting systems early republican and marian, making early republican periode much more harder to play!!!
8. Much moreeeee.!!!!!
Cheers, It has to be ROME!!!!! Ow yeah, let's not forget there will be 2 consuls this time in office!!!
When you think about Rome 2, you have to realize that original was so good because it was moddable, and CA were putting more effort into games, releasing them once in several years. Now its different - they release new game every year, they don't care for moddability anymore. In fact, the game will probably be more primitive than the original, the only advantage would be graphics.
I would like to see Rome 2. RTW was my all time favorite & first TW game!
Otherwise I would like to see Victorian Total war with the American Civil War being in there if not an expansion/standalone expansion.
EDIT*
I just saw your post Broseph, I agree with the mod issue but for CA to progress & advance they have to keep updating their engines & it won't be as easy as it once was to mod. But hey who knows, TWC might find ways to get around these issues at some point in time. CA even helps out the modders best they can & even explained why we aren't able to create or own maps & such. I think I remember it had something to do with pathfinding. But the whole thing with CA releasing games quicker, it may be a number of reasons such as laziness, wanna make quick cash, have a great team that knows how to get the job done, technology today is so much better than it was around RTW that these things are quicker to do, or who knows. But for now I think CA is just doing fine.

Although I would very much like an "Victorian age: Total War" I am going to have to vote for Rome II: Total War on this one. Just think of how beautiful a Roman Legionnaire would look with graphics better than Shogun 2! Or how many more features would be added to the campaign and maybe even a multiplayer campaign!
...and no..no..NO to a "Fantasy: Total War" if they ever released one of those I wouldn't even bother reading a review..or buying it for that matter!
