They sort of did, that was one of the royally stupid reasons why that war had so many casualties, the people still wanted to use some form of Napoleonic tactics on a machine gun warfare... FAIL.
But not to stow away from the subject, I think a WW1 could be sweet, and most important, is doable. This system of turn based strategy and real time tactics could allow to ANY sort warfare to be covered, stone age, space colonization, you name it. However I fell they could improve a lot before getting to that, by making Rome 2, where I hope they finally implement supply systems and improve the overall game experience (both tactical and more important, strategically).
