Thread: Any interest in realistic missile unit ranges and effect?

Default Any interest in realistic missile unit ranges and effect?

It has bothered me since getting the game that matchlocks are 2/3 the range of bows. Matchlocks had an effective killing range of more than twice that of a yumi!

To give an average of a few sources specific to Japanese weapons:

Optimum, effective killing range and maximum range respectively for the matchlock and bow was 50m/30m, 200m/80m, 500m/380m.

The matchlock could penetrate armor within these ranges if it hit. The yumi however could not, sometimes even at very short range.

So for "historical accuracy" or "realism", I feel bow units range should be lowered and matchlock range quite dramatically increased. Effect at longer ranges needs to be tweaked for both - inaccuracy of the matchlock and lack of penetration power of the bow.

Thanks Raimeken. I've used the top one but missed the other.

I think for my own enjoyment I might try to put a mod together and play with it. I can only think it has to do with the vanilla speed of units and balance? Otherwise I can't reason why the ranges and effectiveness would be so...out of whack with...well, anything resembling reality!
