Its true and we should not have to rely on mods to improve them - what about multiplayer?

Its starting to ruin the game for me. I can't enjoy the battles if they are over within 2 minutes. It leaves no time or room for strategies or maneuvers. I'll try a mod and see if it fixes it - if not, I'll go back to M2TW or ETW.

On the contrary, it forces you to plan before the battle and not after it. You just can't have your units halfway across the map anymore.

I have plenty of time to do what I need to do. I mean it would kinda suck if units moved so slowly they were all slaughtered by archers by the time they got anywhere, would make camping the ultimate answer. They move at a speed that is just fine for me.

In other words battles have become static, with little room to move and correct placement and movement of units. I agree with you that units can't be half across the map anymore, I just don't like the fact that it is hard to influence the flow of battle once committed. M2TW had a great mix, so did ETW.

Here is the link for the Speed Reduction Mod, in case you did not want all of the other stuff added in the DarthMod.

I feel the same way about the speed of units on the battlefield. It the mod doesn't help in MP so much, so that kind of stinks

Disagree here. I always plan before a battle even with slow Mods. I don`t even Pause during battle. The problem is battles are unbelievably and unrealistically fast. It`s an immersion buster. NOWAY do people move and fight that fast. The slow mod brings it down somewhat closer to what Human Beings can actually do and not robots on duracell batteries.

Well, you have your right to disagree. I got rid of Darthmod because the battles were too slow. I don't like sitting in a battle for 40-60 minutes. I've got a campaign to play, too.

there are two issues when discussing battles being too fast. one is the speed at which soldiers move (the animation speeds). the second is the rate of attrition (how fast soldiers are killed/route).

Indeed I do and so do you. Speedfreaks are not immersion, but now I see why CA made them speedfreaks.

Good thing there are mods to give people like me immersion. All`s well that ends well.

On a side note, It might be only me but does anyone think that small units shatter faster than large ones?

It seems that in my battles that are Large or Ultra, I'm usually picking stranded units that came back from broken status across the battlefield, while on small ones I don't seem too.

Thank you for the link, I'll give it a whirl when I come home.

And I absolutely agree with HumbleWarrior. It is indeed an immersion buster. I don't want 40 minutes battles either when you only have 4 units, but surely a middle ground would be great.

I have always enjoyed battles in total war, and I don't find these speed battles entertaining. You barely have time to adjust positions of units. Worse, enemy units are capable of exploiting or closing every gap within a second. Yesterday the Ai moved its entire army half across the battle field in less than 30 seconds. Also, is it just me or does the AI seem reactionary? Often they just stand still, then all of a sudden snap into action and cover massive ground in a short period of time.

I will give the mods a try, but have to say this could potentially ruin Shogun 2 for me.

What's wrong with such battles? Did the battle of Tannenberg in 1410 lasted only 10 minutes because everyone needed to pee?

I guess it comes down to what part of the game you like more, the campaign map or battles. If you aren't a fan of strategy and battles I can see why someone would like faster battles. I for one enjoy both aspects, and find the overly fast outcomes of battles a serious immersion problem.

Yes, because the battles of Ancient Rome only lasted 40 minutes in real-life.

Icon1 5/19/11:What to do to have the most "realistic/historical" and complete compatible/modded Shogun 2

READ the mods installation and to do list for compatibilities, but all the mods here are compatible together, no responsibility if bugs/glitches because it works fine on my computer!

USE THE PACK FILE VERSION OF THE DARTHMOD TO BE ABLE TO USE OTHER MODS THAN THESE ALREADY INTEGRATED IN DMS (=version without launcher needed, in fact launcher has made to activate the integrated mod in DMS)

No blood mod because no one of them is realistic, always big blood explosions even with arrows...

Are you kidding? Watch some multiplayer battles, you will see things change rapidly and advantage shift over the course of a long battle. Sudden charges, hidden units, matchlock advances, kiting, general killing, abilities.

A mod I WOULD like to see is one that makes wako and european bases accessible, so I can finally crusht he buggers.
