I recommend gameranger for finding AoE2:C games. Cannot guarantee quality of players though.
I felt like playing the campaigns in AoE2 again so I tried the 4th Genghis Khan mission today (the one where you have to defeat Russia and the Persians). Went fine until I suddenly got rushed by like 20 units and a couple of rams by the Russians and by several Persian elephants and horse archers! Shouldn't have boomed right from the start and shouldn't have played on Very Hard.
Finally managed to beat that scenario on the second try, this time on Hard...

I can crush any campaign on it on very hard under 20-40 minutes, played this game for 7 years and still remember it.
In that stage both of the sections that is Russia and Persia are separated so to meet one has to pawn Persians first. For both Russia and persia in the starting build a wall blocking both of your camps.
Then keep a small army of knights in russia to kill of the Rams the russians send from time to time and a castle with 7-8 mangudais inside to pawn the soldiers they bring.
Meanwhile do a hit and run in persia, crush the gates first then the first castle can be crushed by trebuchets which will be protected by like 40 mangudais to kill of the paladins & elephants they got etc.
Then another castle lies in the deep which can be taken down without breaking the second gate but it's better to crack it open as the damn villagers keep building it again and again. So attack the villagers and kill them in bulk once thy are down to <10 the Persians retire(yeah i remember the AI script as well). There is one research in imperial age that shows all the villagers they have costs 200 per villager so once you pawn like a dozen of them you can research it to discover remaining villagers.
Then the russians got one siege workshop and a stupid castle pretty easy to destroy once persians have been swept.
Also during the start there is one group of archers called Merkits something they join you in russia and that gives you can extra camp to suck resources to support the persian campaign.![]()

No... Just because Astaroth and Ishan have very similar avatars doesn't mean they're both Ishan. If anything it means they're both Astaroth because he is higher ranked.

good times those, my personal favorite a few years ago....
still hear those little guys saying "battle" "yes" "build" in many languages...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Good Times!Stronghold and Age of Empires II were the only two games I played until the release of Battlefield 2 which was in 2005. After that, the number of games I bought spiralled out of control.

I do that, too! We are too similar indeed.
Although contrary to popular belief we are not the same person...
I'm probably going to download a custom campaign now, let's see how that goes.
EDIT: I have now begun playing this user-made custom campaign. It's extremely fun (but be prepared to lose a couple of times and save often)!

No he didn't "doubel" post. Both just have similar avatars.
Hey, how the hell do you beat the Mongols? The AI just spams Mangudai and hit-and-run. They're the strongest faction IMO... only the English stand a chance against them, and only because of the longbowmen's huge range.

The answer to beating the Mongols is simple, don't give them the oppurtunity to get their mangudai into space. If possible, only confront in small spaces with a castle or 2 providing protection. The Saracens actually can match the mongols in the field though, as mamalukes tear through mangudai easily.
Also, skirmishers provide a great meatshield to hold up the mangudai whilst cavalry or halberdiers come up through the rear or even head on.
In terms op factions, look no further than Byzantines and Turks

Analysis should not be diverted by reflections upon the zeal with which the victors at the end of the Second World War punished the defeated for war crimes. The victors were animated by the ideals of the Atlantic Charter and of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was about to peep over the eastern horizon. But first, they wanted a little hanging.
I believe Huscarls are very resistant against archer fire so maybe the Goths are a good choice. Or maybe some siege material like scorpions.
You could also just gold starve him if the map allows it... spam skirmishers for defense, raid his gold mines and acquire map control via castles etc. and he will quickly run out of gold to produce any more mangudais.
Not really. Mangudais beat paladins, if both are in equal numbers.Yeah 10 by default but they can never catch them, paladins can catch them and kill them also if they are not in bulk
I'm not playing with a specific civilization against them.

Ah, you could also try light cavalry/hussars. They cost only food and should beat mangudais cost effectively with ease. They're also faster than paladins.
Yet another alternative would be horse archers of your own (mangudais are really just horse archers with a bonus against siege weapons). Or you could use siege onagers to kill the mangudais as they will usually be quite close to each other.
