Aristocratae are actually the nobles of each region that was often known as provincial clibanarii or thematikoi cataphractoi.
Vasilikoi Anthropoi as their names inticades are the escort force of the King (in our case general's bodyguards).
Athanati will be a unit that will apear ONCE when I.Tzemiskes will be emperor (or when the relative event will apear)and the player will be able only to retrain them and not reqruit more of them.
Hikkanati and Scholarii will be Tagmatic horsemen reqruited ONLY in Constantinople ,ONLY by the legitimate Emperor.
We want all these units to be rare...and expensive. The 90% of the Roman armies must rely on the Thematic troops and not on the Tagmatic ones.

first of all i have to congratulate AnthoniusII for his work.

also, as i see the "Byzantine crown-helms '' that NikeBG preserves in http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...rown-helms.jpg i have the same opinion , those are ceremonials .
(also congratulations to NikeBG for the preservation of those)

as i have said there is one main condition who separate a helmet as ceremonial from one that is for battle.

this is : the as possible bigger protection to the person wears it.

those from the the Bamberg silk as also the one that on Basill II' head, are ceremonials indeed.
but my opinion is different for that of the Tresure de la Cathedrale, Troyes , France.

I never say that this one is the one or the main that emperors used (at that period) . that is just one of them.

(we know that some eyers later to the 12 TH CENTURY emperor Manuel Comnenos use a golden 'klisias' a golden protect of the face (possible of rings type or scalinessscaliness, holding from the helmet) so perchaps this kind of helmet is more near to what AnthoniusII described for that also [or similar] Tzimeskes used.
as i say, there also existed many forms in roman empire, and the emperor choose that likes himself most. battle is not a ceremonie, and any of them liked to have best prottection.)
    -----------------------------
about the tagmatic army, it is true and very good that AnthoniusII decide ---> The 90% of the Roman armies must rely on the Thematic troops and not on the Tagmatic ones.
forgive me if i have miss something , but there also some special expert units like Mardaite of Attalia (but also reffered to Peloponisos and Nicopolis/Epirus) included to the thematic army , as soldiers or marines .
    ------------
all my purpose here is on good will, not in any sense of juxtaposition.
    ----------

We had something like this for Officers in mind:

Also a version of casis helmet (simpliest one) with a "roman" crest

...see the soldier that is closest...
Our officers/captains in combat will use a variety of helmets and round shields based on church freskos.
Our Generals (as only mounted) will use a variety of kite shields with some
helmets that became comon in 12th century but used in 10th also.
For strat_map characters such agents, diplomats we will use officers in no combat dress.

I've written description but I haven't noticed sreenshots and men with sword (''where's Wally'') next to Contarati description
    It is a good news...
How did you fix problem with strange dual-weaponed pikemen behavior? I mean In MTW II and Kingdoms they often changed front and stood with their backs to furious enemies
I hope Contarati prefer to fight eye to eye...

TGC has most than two years of development.
CBUR inorder to have realistic "phalanx" action (no more on knees while in stand ground) asked help from JMRC that is one of the major developers of EBII. JMRC was very kind and helped us with what we call CBUR phalanx.
Kontarati was the 1st of the units we wanted to be kind of unique.
There are many pike units that also use swords as secondary weapons.
But our pike formation plus the shield placement issue had to be delt by proffesionals like JMRC.
Absinthia added to them secondary swords and voila!
Kontarati replaced Promachoi in real . So they will fight to death. The good thing is that a player can use them as swordmen if wants to and they are swordmen on walls! That looks more realistic than having long pikes defending walls!
Kontarati and javelin units like acontistae (peasants) or Peltastae (Acritae infantry) are the closest to melee unit the Thematic army will have.
In fact the only real melee unit will be Excubitores forcing the player to recruit melee kind of mercearies when and where they are available.
Vikings and later Varangians will be some of them but they wont be available fro the start.

And for those who can't read Russian, the first one says "Stratiotes - infantryman from Tzimiskes' army", while the second goes as "Byzantine klibanophoroi - heavily armed horseman. IX-XI c."
