TATW - The War of the Ring

This is a closed 2-player co-operative hotseat game. I intend this to be rather different to normal hotseats, as there are only two human controlled factions and the idea is to assist and co-operate as alies, rather than as rivals.

This hotseat will be more AAR in style as a result, and I hope to tell the story as it develops and provide plenty of screenshots. TATW just doesn't work in normal hotseat conditions, but I believe such a great mod can still be played as a hotseat. Just in a different way.

The rules are simple. As this is a co-op game, there really are no house-rules. There is no turn time limit, although as there are just two players, the game should proceed at a good pace.

As the end of the third age of the world draws near. The scattered Dwarf clans look to the future with some trepidation. The Dark lord Sauron, has returned to Morder and is preparing to unleash a final war against the few remaining free people of middle earth.

To the south, the remnants of the Dunedain of Gondor prepare for the onslought of the Dark Lord and his servants. Rumours abound that the orcs are multiplying in the mountains, and in the east and south. Men under the dominion of Sauron are mobilising.

Rumour reaches the north of evil at Isengard, the home of the wizard, Saruman.

King Dain Ironfoot makes what preparations he can. He must make the Dwarves strong again, if they are to have any hope of weathering the dark times ahead. The first task is to start the construction of roads to facilitate trade and communication between the distant Dwarf strongholds. An army marches from the Blue mountains to secure and develop some of the empty lands of Eriador. Another small army marches north from the Lonely Mountain to secure a foothold in the Iron mountains.

The tale now turns to the Silvan Elves of Thranduils folk and of the golden wood, Lothlorien.

Dark times... dark times indeed..

While the majority of the Elves are leaving Middle-Earth.. there are some who decide to stay..

The Silvan Elves refuse to leave the woodland realm.. and are highly motivated to take back the lands that once belonged to them.. The Silvan Elves are ready to pick up the bow and the sword to protect Middle-Earth from the Orcish scum..

The woods are silent..

The road-building program is completed on time, and the construction of pig-farms has begun in all settlements. Scouts so far report no sign of hostile forces.

In the north, the settlment of Wormcove has been sighted. This small settlement will be occupied in the coming months.

The tale of the elves....

Just north of the forests of Lothloriën lies the Gladden Fields.. This beautiful region suffers under the tyranny of goblins each year..

Therefor.. Celeborn has decided to build a little Elven village in this region.. with the purpose of keeping the goblins away from this beautiful region...

The tiny settlement of Wormcove, in the grey mountains has been claimed. A band of woodsmen tried to resist. Their large AP axes came as a rude shock to the Dwarf miners. Hundreds died.




The Elves

It is a great day for the Silvan Elves and all of Middle Earth!!

Prince Legolas has liberated west Mirkwood from 1300 orcs under the command of the orc leader Sautes..

King Dain has ordered his warriors to capture Dain's Halls in the Grey mountains. The financial situation for King Dain is not good. He needs gold.

The Dwarf embassy has contacted King Thranduil, and the folk of the wood and the mountain are now allies against the evil of Mordor.

Elves...

Prince Legolas has married the young elven woman Galadriel..
In the meantime Prince Legolas has started his march towards East Mirkwood with the goal of reconquering that part of the forests..




In the Lothlorien region, Haldir and his army have marched into the Mountains to fight off some goblins which attempted to raid the newly found elven village..

The warriors of the blue mountains, led by Gimli, son of Gloin. Moved to secure the lowlands to the east of the Blue mountains. This region is known as Lune-land. The village of Lune-laith was defended by a large number of ruffians.

Heavy fighting took place in the village square and many Dwarves and even more men were slain.





Is has become all too clear that Dwarf miners are unsuited to serious fighting. The Dwarf armies will not include this troop type in future, who are suitable only as garrisons for quiet areas.

No word from Haldir since he has left with his army for the Misty Mountains...

Little news from the children of Durin. Taxes are low to encourage population growth, and the Dwarves are woking on paved roads around the lonely mountain. A practise range is being built in the Iron hills, to enable axethrowers to be trained.

Contact has been made with the high elves. The once mighty Noldor. The Dwarves have agreed to an alliance with the Nolder, as they did in the first and second age.

Silvan elves...

Finally word has arrived from Haldir and his army! He has taken an goblin settlement deep in the Misty Mountains! This Victory should assure the safety of Lothlorien for the next few years..
