Does anyone know how to unlock Ashikaga shogunate in campaign?

To play as? I'm not sure why you would want to. The whole game gravitates towards the fact it isn't you - from diplomacy to campaign goals.

Although I suppose you could argue he is trying to retain his shogunacy (is that a word? lol) but it is kind of like playing as the Papal States in M2. I'm not sure I would want to. BUT, I wouldn't mind seeing them try to be more expansive.

I also want their flag/colours. At the moment though the tools still haven't been sorted out, until they do we ain't gonna have any Minor Clan unlocks

Yes, it is possible. Very possible, actually. As for making them more aggressive...or aggressive at all, is just a matter of tweaking with the ESF.

The developers would have to create a slightly different campaign from the rest. Instead of trying to become Shogun (since you would already be Shogun), you are trying to unite Japan. Instead of receiving certain quests from the Shogun - they should come from the Emperor instead, etc etc.

The Shogun is suppose to be the miltary ruler of Japan, and in real life this Ahikaga person did a poor job of ruling if the whole country was attempting a mass mutiny against him. He should not have tolerated such disloyalty and gone on the offensive against all those who opposed him. So yes, I think it would be an interesting choice if the developers are wanting to make another clan playable in the future.

What would happen if the Shogun grew a pair?!

Edit: One of their bonuses would be discounts to military units (but for balance purposes maybe have economy cost more?).

What would happen with Realm Divide? I can only see a crash...or, i would see playing as the Shogun at the start, every faction declaring war on you? that is, in any quickly done mod...

The Realm Divide should be removed anyway, and replaced with a more realistic diplomatic system. For example: if a clan becomes too powerfull all unfriendly clans will be more likely to delcare war (to quell the power of the expanding clan, whether it's the player or AI). Any friendly clans would be more likely to form an alliance or become vassels as they don't want to be on your bad side when it comes time to expanding.

That's just my quick idea of a more natural Realm Divide.

As for everyone declaring war or you as Shogun: maybe just have everyone start out as unfriendly. Having a discount to all military units (since you are the Shogun after all), and maybe starting with an extra General or so, would help balance things out a bit better.

On the other hand... Being Shogun could be a seperate mode altogether. Like EXTREME mode where everyone starts out by declaring war on you right off the bat.

Well I believe you become Shogun only when you've defeated all your enemies. Realm divide should occur before you become Shogun.

To play as them. But I would probably suggest 'wiping' some of the scripted events from the game as they wouldn't fit from the Shogun's perspective.
