Default V1-V3 League of Privateers thread

Hi. There are multiple faction fan threads and now I start one for the Privateer League. I start with a strategy question: How do you act as them? Realistic Hit (, plunder ) and run tactic and conquering special points for sea support or do you simply play as a normal colonial/ renaissance power ?

Is it like?: , jajajaja....no seriusly i'm getting an itch for playing privatters now(haven't done it yet). Would you say privateer's campaign is fun/funnier than other campaign for any particular reason?.
For example: It's massive fun to play as Vikings, you get all the feeling of the vikings of the myths and playing against the natives in messo is just wiked fun.

About strategy: Yes, I tried it only holding rich cities and strongholds with good strategic positions. After some time you have a network of hideouts and trading ports around all Thera, capable of striking at any coastal province you want. It gives much authenticy and is pure fun.
About sharp shooters: They really rock. It expands your possibilities to use guirillia tactics. Their pure range gives the word skirmish a new meaning ...
About campaign fun: Their units are typical spanish/ colonial ones with skull symbols. They have pirate ships and a useful starting positions (comparable to the ventian one in vanilla).

I was pretty chuffed with the privateer skins, I think the skulls look pretty, especially liked the Cuissers skull on the breastplate

Use the sharpshooters to flank and try and kill enemy general, in the mod, generals give good bonuses, so often taking out the general will turn the battle

They also have a nice mix of neighbours, from vastly different cultures, I was tempted to give them a starrting provenice on the meso landmass, but it unbalanced their progress under AI control

    1. I don't know how to take pics.
    2. I've started a new pirate campaign and overwrote the old savegame by mistake. Next year (tomorrow ) I will have a new empire under the Jolly Roger and post a few screens (If you tell me how)
The sharpshooters are of course a supporting unit. I only wanted to say that 2-3 units of them with a small escort of infantry can survive on their own when you don't have enough troops in this corner of the (really big) world.
And yes, the skulls look good

press print screen during a battle, and it saves a pic in the form of a tga to your tga folder in C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\

sorry I didn't play the pirates . I played with the Romuli (my favourite faction) and Avalon (The Roman Empire and a England-based fantasy kingdom I learned to love, too). However I could give you a picture in the next time.

When i play the privateers i moved to take the island provinces that belong to the christian nations (due to the anti-papal background thing) and eventually sacked vatican island. Good times for the privateers.

Yeah it is. And gives you a good feeling when black-dressed criminals storm the town with its holy white dressed guards

Do you mean Gangwha ? Yes, some provinces aren't garrisoned. I think it's to help the ai factions expand quicklier. Conquer it, be happy, and use it as a base when raiding the Lao Che lands.

empty settlements were to represent devestaed regions, most are small so take an age to develop, and end up costing lots of money, their are a few developed ones, as easter eggs, to encourage exploration.

I may have all settlements defended in next version as most people mistook this as a bug

I actually used it as a base of operations to get to cusco (very profitable mines ), although Gangwha came under siege recently by the Tahar

I still can't figure out how to wage war against an enemy withought conquering his whole empire....you know just to keep some strategic provinces
