Thread: Less research options

    Default Less research options

I'm a proud owner of Shogun 2 and I love the game!

There is one thing in particular that vexes me though and thats the tech tree. I think that tree should be "cut" , or at least most of the entries in the Tech Tree should be pre-activated whenever you start a new game through a mod. I think its annoying to spend time in order to learn proper spear/sword/naginata/bow in an era where the Samurai had done nothing but fight with said weapons for 400 years. The tech tree should be more smaller with just a few unique options.

I think its one thing to have a research option for "guns/powder" as it naturally takes time for a new invention to spread as it did in Japan. That part is ok in my book.
But its another matter in my opinion to have, as an example, the two worthless options of "Strategy of defense" and "Strategy of attack". They unlock naginata dojo and siege workshop respectively. I think they should be available right from the start and we shouldnt be forced to waste time researching the two most common features of Samurai warfare since the 12th, 13th century.
The exception would perhaps be "legendary kenjutsu dojo", but I wouldnt want any research option "behind" it like "Way of the sword".

On the "Chi" tree: Rice has been cultivated longer than anyone can remember in both Japan and Asia in general: Why do we have to research the methods of terrace farming and so on? Another: "Essence of the spirit": It builds monastaries which leads to warrior monks. Monastaries is also not a new development but has existed for centuries in that era. Most useless most be "Calligraphy": Enables the study of the confucian classics and Law..Also somethings thats been around Asia since Confucius himself .

By now you know what I mean. I know I'm not the first guy who has thought of this or perhaps even suggested it here, but it is what I believe non the less In a perfect world ALL the tech-tree options would be enabled, but I do agree that some things could be researched if there has to be a tech-tree.

    Sorry for long post.

One can just set all the techs to 1 research point and you'll be done in a flash. When the tools are out I'm sure someone will make an all tech available fast, or at start, mod.
