Thread: XC with BI?

  1. #1

    Default XC with BI?

In the Readme, it says that there is an install option for BI and ALX .exes, but when installed there isn't, and it won't run with the BI disc. Is the Readme just out of date?

Also, probably unrelated, when I try to start a new imperial campaign, it says "Please select an item from the list", and when I exit, the following message shows up:

I suspect it fails to detect your BI exe.
Are you sure you don't have other mods installed and have patch 1.6?

This is what should appear when you open the installer:

Its related, and is the same problem. It happened to me. You need to update to 1,6 version of BI

not just that, it didnt give me the option until i re-installed a fresh version (possibly due to 2 mods already using the Bi exe)
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

I do have other mods installed, but into other copies of Rome. I have BI 1.6, so that's not the problem.

Also, when I try to install, I get the following:

As you can see, no option for BI. Perhaps because RTW isn't installed into the default area it can't find it?

Installer will detect registeration key, so if your RTW folder is differ from what in registeration line in window, installer would not consider you have BI or ALX

that's so annoying because XC can only be installed on the default program files folder with either Alex or BI, and can't be installed on another folder

It can be fixed, however it requires a bit of registry tinkering.

If you feel confident enough with your computer skills try this:

    1)start-run-regedit.exe

    2) using the find function (usually ctrl+f) look for RomeTW-BI.exe until you find a key with a string like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe (it may take a few times).

    3) right click on the key, modify and type exactly the path to the exe (example C:\Games\RTW\RomeTW-BI.exe)

This should point the installer in the right direction.

well, just force-extracting the installer do the trick
but it make the file arrangements some guesswork

    ...
especially since the original RTW installation is a sacred ground, I use that for MP!
(that makes XC is the most annoying mod in terms of installation...joke intended, XC is great mod otherwise)

We inherited XGM installer, frankly switching to a different one would be hell given how many options we have in there...

well, a bit weird since XGM installer works fine with folder outside program files, but XC is not

you did use the older version of XGM installer though

Hmm, it's been a while since we split with XGM...

EDIT: Funny, the detection system in XGM and XC seems to be exactly the same...

Since this has gone rather off course, just thought I'd let you know I resolved the issue, simply re-installed into the default folder and installed XC there. Loving the mod so far .

May i say that i dont think it went off course
Ferdiad, they have a right to know that bananas are being forced to make mods
