No chance!
Unlikely.
Likely.
Hasta la vista, SS!
Different strokes for different folks! DoTS, if released, will grow into its own (hopefully). It promises a lot of nice stuff; I wish them all the luck in the world at achieving success. SS is tried and true, and it only gets better with each version. Both mods are nice leaps forward from CA's original game. I plan on playing both, just to keep things interesting.
"Menace?" I've never even heard of DoTS before.
It's going to be perfect for me if DotS is better then SS - instead of modding i'll be playing.
DotS won't 'kill' SS or anything like that. The reason is that it targets quite a different demographic than SS does.
While in SS one can conquer half the world, doing so will be next to impossible in DotS.
While a character will live well into their 60s or longer in SS, the median age in DotS will be about 50, with many dieing before that.
While a character in SS is useful for all his life, a character's health will quickly deteriorate in DotS as the character gets old.
While SS is only loosely historical, being historically accurate is the main focus of DotS.
While in SS almost any faction can do great when player-controlled, several factions in DotS will be hard to do much with beyond survive.
Overall: DotS caters to those who love history. SS caters to those who like conquering the world.
DotS and SS will therefore mostly peacefully coexist. DotS will probably take some players from SS, but I doubt the SS community will die any time soon.

a shameful display indeed!
"it would even be released"
it will be, simply.
Patria Libera too
All Under Heaven too
Broken Crescent new version too
and plenty of other excellent opus as TGC, SV4.0, a new PDER....list is very long.
Just I praise for CA deshardcode the futur Shogun 2. I'm scarred when I heard all the discussions about this full hardcoding of Shogun 2! It will be the end of the modding.
i hope it can be modded too in the future. i wont buy the game unless there's a good mod for it
cant say anything yet if it's nt yet played, right?
DOTS looks like it would play well in a history class. For fun, what gaming is about, I'll stick with SS.
Given how dynamic that the average MTW II player is, after the initial two weeks "Release rush",{Well, maybe three...} DotS will become just another cog that demonstrates the superiorly of MTW II Mods for the Medieval enthusiast.
Just as we recommend BC & many other sister mods to folks, DotS will take it's place, in our hearts as a mainstay. Best of luck to the DotS team on it's completion, So it can take it's rightful place as a flagship, MTW II mod.
Long live DotS & Stainless Steel....

A Lion serves in Winter, then perhaps a Unicorn for the Spring.

I just think its very good that more than 4 years after release, through its mods M2TW is stronger than ever and looks like things are getting even better.
I will certainly try DotS when it is released, especially if it is historically accurate. Honestly I don't even like conquering whole map as it is now possible in SS.
But I'm NOT going to abandon SS, I will play both of them and SS will always have a special place in my heart as the best mod for M2TW!
Well DofS seems to share some things with both SS and BGR as well as add even more so I will surely try it. Not sure if I'll make the complete switch but likely will play it for a few months at least if its good. Too many good things going on though really.
Don't have the time to do it all anymore so generally I'm in the mod for 1 of 4 things- FPS, RPG, strategy(Paradox), tactical(MTW2, AoE3, SC2, Company of Heroes, Close Combats etc). In order of preference least favorite to most favorite but in order of having time to play as FPS you can drop in for a map or 2, RPG easy to save at any point, strategy a bit harder and tactical usually quite hard (except for MTW2 in some cases but time just gets burnt up in MTW2 mods).

DofS seems to focus on strategic realism and historical accuracy without turning a game into a burden. Arbitrary additions because the modders "felt like it", such as the uber heretics of 6.4 make me doubt SS. I hope DofS lives up to it's hype.
Yes the DoTS menace hath arisen, we must jump SShip! Women and modders first! Save as many banana boxes from the Khurch as you can.
