Turning shows completely off = gain of 20 fps
well first of all my specs arent that bad - Six-Core Phenom II X6 1090T, 5870 gpu, 4 gigs ddr3 ram windows 7 64 bit. everything on ultra (even unit sizes) playing at 1920x1080 (all optional effects off) getting 15-80 fps.
However when i turn off shadows i get an instant gain of 20 fps.. so my minimum fps atm is 35 fps which is pretty good i think. Is it just me or does this work for anyone else?

no need, game just isnt optimized yet (hopefully the patch 2-4 wks will smooth it over.) 5870 is still plenty fast.

Re: Turning shows completely off = gain of 20 fps
i see... ill wait i guess btw how do u get to those settings? is it under video in the amd vision engine control center?
nvm its under 3d app settings.
ok changed it lets see how my fps are with shadows on and off.
well i gave it a shot with those settings.. pretty much the same performance...
the optional effects make it look a bit better though... however same thing still happens... shadows cause a drop of 20 frames so for now am keeping shadows off.
btw with 3x speed do u get like 5-8 fps when your whole army moves??
cheers.

yeah 2x speed no difference but with 3x speed it lags like crazy. guess shogun makes better use of intel cpus.

yeah it's the CPU bottlenecking you. The shadows help because they are basically objects the cpu has to keep track of. The actual shading is done by the graphics card, but the CPU still needs to keep track of where they all are. It doesn't matter that you have six cores, this game is barely duel core optimized.
