Oh, an M-14, Nice. I'm thinking about getting an Intervention instead of a .308 (I think an Intervention is a .308 anyways)

"Walk softly and carry a big gun, brothers!" said Capitain Gabriel Angelos to his Space Marines in Dawn of War, the magnificent first episode of the relic WarHammer 40.000 RTS Saga.
But I'm against the private citizen use of firearms.

Considering the fact that he's conservative, I'm not that surprised he feels that way...

And I'm a Swede, by the way. Where are you from?
Ah, from the good ole USSA (extra S for socialist), Joar. To be precise, from "Shyster city" (Chicago), Crook County (Cook), in nanny state of Illinois. And to further elaborate how content im with socialism and the current state of affairs in my part of land heres a little poem to brighten your day.

Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears.

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone, we won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance tax.

The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them."

-- Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story of the John Marshall Court

And if great groups of citizen politicaly organized (exemple: Nazi, Communists, Fascists, Ultra Nazionalists,Religious Fanatics, terrorists moviments of any kind) use these arms to attak the Democacy of your country? More guns they have more difficult to contrast them, for me this is the reason that inspired the prohibition of the arms in the European states.

If you were to take all of the liscenced Hunters east of the Mississipi, which is in the Millions, it would be the Most Powerful Army in the World. 80 Million Americans own a Firearm legally, according to Gallop Polls. (That was like 2 years ago though). Come to America, up.

    Thats a fair question sir!
I like the idea that every one thinks Americans as crazy gun nuts and im not going to get into whats right or worng to own a gun or if Citizens should own them. I was raised to respect A firearm and would never use it against some one out of anger.

Now that said I could see this becoming A flame topic so maybe we should move on?

JH I didnt mean to Offend I thought you meant you wanted A gun..I can understand ones reason not to and would not want my post to be misconstrued as picking on you or attacking you in any way. I was just poking fun to get A rise out of you.

If introducing a lot of firearms to a society would mean that it became more safe and stable, then countries such as Afghanistan and Somalia, where basically everyone walks around with a Kalashnikov, would be the safest places on earth...

One can, of course, defend liberal gun laws from a historical, traditional, cultural point of view, and so on, but no intelligent person can claim that guns increases safety in a society. If one disregards the whole paranoid notion of "the state is out to get you" rhetoric, then it becomes next to impossible to claim that guns make the world safer.

    You Americans are lucky.

IIRC you were allowed to keep guns on the basis of hypothetically forming a militia in case of invasion, am I right?

Yes, that's why Yamato never invaded america - he knew they would never get past the coast because there's a gun behind every bush. But we also have our other reasons.

My friend, you keep making these sort of fantastic claims without backing them up. Now we need to see some sources, sir!

No, no, no. If you make a rather bold statement, it is not up to me to check that it's correct. That's not how it works.

Anyways, you're talking about Yamamoto, right? Now I'm certainly no expert on WWII, but I have never ever heard of a Japanese invasion plan of the US. The reason why they attacked Pearl Harbour was to destroy the US fleet, thus preventing them from meddling in the primary Japanese objective; to expand in South East Asia and so on.
