i second this. the game runs great on my older gaming rig, but there is noticeable slowdown when arrows are in the air. wouldn't mind turning them off

this was easy to do in empire and napoleon.

should be in shogun too soon

There are no 'arrow trails'. Look closely when the game is paused, and you'll see they only look like trails because the arrows themselves are very long (as Japanese arrows should be). Get close enough and what looked like a 'trail' is actually a whole arrow.

I love the fact the arrows are more visible now - it gives the 'blackening the sun' effect.

It is possible to change the colour of the flying arrow to a darker one, thus not appearing white. There are a few other options as well, and we'll get to it once a working PFM is out

Not for me there aren't. I've had a good, long look closeup, and there's nothing there. Only a long arrow.

don't zoom in all they way quickly. look at a volley from a distance, you'll notice that they are white long lines, then gradually zoom in. you'll see the arrow come into view with a white line behind it, but as you get closer it gradually disappears until you are withing a very close distance of the arrow. i personally don't mind how they did it in this but arrow trails in medieval and Rome annoyed the out of me.
