Nice!
The man in the centre, looks like a well equipped English Civil War Horseman, with his long sleeved buff coat...he needs only a good tri-bar pot helmet, two or three good pistols, and he would be immediatly enrolled!!!....Romans in buff coat!...interesting!!!!
@ First Citizen Gallienus: I can´t remember where, but when I was searching for the gallery, I re-found this Italian blog with many pictures. I think Diocle will be happy to see it in his native language Here is the link:

Diocle you speak French as well?
Just been reading Zucchini's page, if you just stumbled on this without any prior knowledge of late Roman military, you'd leave with a desire to read more!
Only if you admit that the mom of Constantinus was a whore!!!......
Tomy is the great picture giver.

Ohhhh, look at those shields!
OK, here is a little sneak preview. Late 3rd Century Legio Guard Units formed under Diocletian. These are still a work in progress and the shields are by Joar.
These are hypothetical versions of what the 3rd. Century shield designs for these units may have looked like. The posting above showing the eagle emblems are more likely 4th. Century.
The idea comes from this:
"The men under the Praefectus numeri Solensium would seem to represent the surviving core of a legion dating from the time of Constantius 'Chlorus', who was associated with Sol in the same way Diocletians was with Jupiter, Maximianus with Hercules and galerius with Mars ( Constantius' son Constantine the Great was also associated with Sol Invictus before converting to Christianity). Other surviving detachments of this unit appear to be represented in the Notitia Dignitatum by the Solenses seniores and Solenses Gallicani under the Magister militum per Thracias. This may have been a new unit raised by Constantius (or his son), but given that these Solenses units are legionary formations rather than auxiliary units, it is tempting to conclude they are the old Legio XX Valeria Victrix renamed." (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/luke/ueda-sar...tanniarum.html).
The first two units would have guarded the Augustii.
Firstly the Herculiani:
Legio III Herculia: one of the legions of the later Roman empire. Its name means 'the legion dedicated to Hercules'.
This legion was created by the emperor Diocletian (284-305). It was called after Diocletian's colleague, the emperor Maximianus, who often called himself Herculius, 'the man like Hercules'. The date of the creation is unknown, but was probably at the beginning of the joint reign of the two emperors.
III Herculia was probably created to defend a province, but was later added to the field army of Illyricum. The original province is not known, but may have been Raetia. At the end of the fourth century, III Herculia was still part of the Illyrian field army. It is mentioned as the twin of III Italica.
Joviani:
Legio I Iovia: one of the legions of the later Roman empire. Its name means 'the legion dedicated to Jupiter'.
This legion was created by the emperor Diocletian (284-305), who was often called Iovianus, 'the man like Jupiter'. The date is unknown, but was probably at the beginning of his reign. Together with II Herculia, which seems to have been the twin of I Iovia, it was stationed in the newly created province of Scythia (near the mouth of the Danube). It was still there when the text known as the Notitia Dignitatum (a list of magistracies and army units) was composed (c.400), and may have survived into the early Byzantine Empire.
These units would have guarded the Caesar's.
Martensis:
Legio I Martia: one of the legions of the later Roman empire. Its name means that the legion was dedicated to the Roman war god Mars.
The only unambiguous evidence for the existence of this legion consists of one drawing of an inscription that is now lost. It mentions the building of a fortress in the province of Valeria (western Hungary) in 48 days in the year 371. It is likely that the legion is identical to the Martenses that are mentioned as part of the Illyrian field army in about 400 CE. It is likely that the legion was founded by Diocletian.
It is possible that this legion had the surname Victrix.
Solensis:
This may have been a new unit raised by Constantius (or his son), but given that these Solenses units are legionary formations rather than auxiliary units, it is tempting to conclude they are the old Legio XX Valeria Victrix renamed
Absolutely amazing looking troops!
Great find First Citizen, those models look great. Interesting how so many of the figures are carrying the draco.
