Does it increase their effectiveness against a frontal infantry attack or should it only be used against cavalry? I'm wondering if I should make use of the spear wall formation more in sieges and such

Well it says it increases effectiveness against cav, but i dont about infantry, they did seem to last longer when i was using them as a holding force when they were in that formation though.
Thanks for the info guys!
I noticed that putting them in spear formation utterly destroys most frontal cavarly charges, as for infantry, I think when you recruit a unit of those spearmen a video pops up and mentions that they are only good against cavalry but not against swords. :]
Yeah I know, but I was more wondering if in spear wall they would be slightly more effective if they're in a defensible position. Not that they would defeat a unit of Katana samurai say but that they may either hold out longer and/or cause more casualties to the attacking infantry.
Most likely, any unit on guard mode should last a little longer in 1 on 1.
You can easily test this in a custom battle. Set up a unit of spearmen in guard mode along with spear wall against whatever unit you like. Then in a second custom battle do the same thing except no guard mode + spear wall.
