Default Feelings About The Campaign AI

Well after a few hours gaming I've a few things to say about the CAI (some good, some bad, so I'll do the bad first).

First off, wow, the AI really has a hard on for declaring war for no reason (and not doing anything about it). It gets better - they refuse peace even when 20 turns have passed with no fighting or blockading!

CA, you have brought the Empire bug back into the Campaign AI.

Wheres Darth Vader when you need him.....................

Fair enough, it may just be that I was playing on VH/VH (as the Mori) but still - what gives? I dont overexaggurate when I say that every single surrounding clan was at war with me (including several who didnt even share borders eg. the Ito!)

3 of them actively tried to attack me (good use of naval invasions btw) but the rest did bugger all (particularly the Chosokabe. They just sat there and sulked).

Dont get me wrong, I did notice one or 2 gold nuggets in the AI. For example, when I was attacked in the early stages of my campaign both my bordering allies, seeing that I had no army protecting my capital, promptly moved soldiers in and around my capital Aki.

    + Gold star there CA!

All in all its early days yet (I still want to have a crack at the Date clan) but there are a few wee issues that need addressed (toning down AI aggressiveness for one). However, its not as bad as I feared, and the AI does shine at times =)

    Oh, I got a question !

When you break alliances, you get the "dishounoured treaties" penalty when looking at your relations with other clans.
In the demo it was a CONSTANT -45 to relations, is this still the same in the full game ?

-25 now. Havent seen it subside.

Playing on Hard mode atm. Going a lot smoother now; less aggression.

Folks speak about VH/VH difficulty settings here. I saw only one slider for difficulty (no battle/campaign distinction). Did I miss anything?

Nope. For some reason CA decided to go that route.

    Sounds fine to me.

    a) It's a war game, so you would expect there to be a lot of war declared, especially when the object of the game is to win by conquest? There is only one reason for them not to declare war on you given this, and that is that it would weaken them. This obviosuly wasn't the case. Makes perfect sense to me, especially given how in most other TW games you get a period to build armies and towns with abandon at the start. I love the few games of TW I've had where you have to actually react. Sounds good.
    b) Why should a faction make peace with you if there's nothing to be gained from it? You clealry wern't winning, or taking them fight to them, so if they had declared peace that would have just been a sop to you.

Sounds like it's hard. You might even say, Very hard. Good.
