Shader model 4+ greyed out?

I'm on a i7 @3.4
6GB pc 12800
HD 6970

Everything above shader model 3 is gereyed out.

I knew we werent going to get DX11., but is Dx10(.1) gone now as well?

I'l check it out in a couple of minutes. Isn't the directx option in the graphics menu somewhere? Is the game set in directx 10 mode?

Thats what Im trying to find out.

Whether it's on my end, like a bad install or drivers, or that Dx 10 is just not in.

That's the shader model.

4 is DX 10, but everything beyond 3 is greyed out for me.

If it's anything like civ 5, I had to do this:

First off, the system wanted me to install Vista Service Pack 2. It said “Service Pack 2″ required. It took me a while to figure out it was talking about Vista SP2.
Second, Install all mandatory updates.
Third, Update your video drivers and Direct X to ensure you are running the latest version. Vista People thats DX10, Windows 7 gets DX11. XP get’s DX9 so you don’t need to worry
Fourth, And this step was vital. Under OPTIONAL updates in Windows Update is an update called ‘Platform Update for Windows Vista x64′ (I have a 64 bit system) This is update KB971644. I do not know if there is a version for this for x86 (32 bit) systems OR if it is required.

Once installing THIS update and rebooting I was able to run the game in Direct X 10 mode.

Maizel, it may be that you didn't select the version of directx, specifically 10, 10.1....really hope that's the case

If it's greyed out it's possible it's not in the game yet! Maybe a patch will sort it?
Although I thought DX11 was to be patched, but not DX10.. pff!!

Is there another option to select DX versions other than the shader models? I though SM 3, 4, 4.1 and 5 was synonymous for Dx 10, 10, 10.1 and 11 rspectively?

I posted the shader models and their respective DX versions to clarify for people who didn't know.

There was an update I had to install and I think I did this:

1. Quit out of Steam.

2. Right-click on the Steam.exe application (found in the Steam installation folder) and select "Properties", then select the "Compatibility" tab.

3. At the bottom of this tab is a button called "Change Settings for All Users". Click it.

4. Change the compatibility mode to AT LEAST "Windows Vista Service Pack 2".

5. Relaunch Steam.


These are just things I'm copy pasting I remember seeing and doing to get DX10 working on civ5...I don't know if it will work for you, just trying to help.

I have windows 7 64 bit. I remember downloading an update and doing the steam thing.
