Thread: Battle Creator [V4]

I am sooooo excited. A week ago, right as Mitch was working his magic, I noticed many people were bashing on S2. Saying its the going to be the worst in the series and its un-moddable. I was defending it with some other fans. But more people were hating than loving. I liked the demo before Mitch's first release, but I never would have played it after the first day. That is when i found Mitch's God-like act and every day I anticipate a new battle to download. Just want to say thanks for making this demo a "game" and to all the haters out there, "I told you so".

I think you have to post a certain amount of times for the option to appear. (At least, it appeared for me after about 20-25 posts.)

Wouldnt surprise me if Mitch gets a job at CA eventually. They most definately would be looking at your work Mitch seeing how your blitz modding is all the blaze at totalwar.com forums aswell.

Since when does CA care about the modding community? (after ETW at least)

I'm still stuck at the same problem I was before. I'v been trying to fix it for ages, but I'm completely stumpted atm.

Basicaly the problem is my tool creates a battle XML byte perfectly. I had the trouble that it wasn't creating the XML with the required UTF-8 encoding. So I fixed that.

NOW it seems that the encoding has to be "UTF-8 without BOM", I'v made the tool read the file into Binary and strip the first 3 bytes which are the BOM characters then resave it... BUT IT'S STILL NOT WORKING..

I'v even checked that my files created are UTF-8 without BOM encoded with Notepad++ and it says they are..

The wierd thing is, that Notepad++ says my files are the correct Encoding, yet the game crashes when using the files.. So I convert my files in Notepad++ to UTF-8 with BOM, and then back to without BOM, just like Notepad say's they were before... and then they work!!.........

It's completely crazy, the files are byte for byte the exact same.. but one works, and the other doesn't.... I'm getting annoyed.

I don't think Taw can help, he uses Ruby which is Mac based. I heavily use Windows based coding such as APIs, so we are both very far away from understanding what each others work does or more importantly does wrong I think.

There must be a slight difference. Any chance you could get the tool to convert them back and fourth like you do manually?

Well Mich its not the end of the world, your skills are imperative and we will need some seriously help getting our NTW tools up-to-date once the game is out. Maybe with some of your mad programming skills you could be one of the founding fathers of the Shogun 2 modding community and help us get the single play campaign in shape.

this means that the tool will not be ready soon?
