Oh how I love choke points....

That's right, 3 units of line infantry staggered up a hill so they can all fire at once, and completely obliterate the rather unfortunate AI on the other side...

    Glorious shots Lewis!

Here's my best victory ever in a total war game methinks. I was busy invading the north of Japan with two of my three main armies so I only had one stack in my home lands. My ally and longterm trading partner the Saga clan betrayed me and invaded my province that neighbours their own with three full stacks. I started to move my only army available to the north to try and intercept them before the Saga could take too much land or do too much damage to my economy.

I was too late though and they surrounded my city. I had a decent fortress (the second last one) so I could hold off an army or two, but not 8000 men I decided to duke it out on the battle map and do as much damage before trying to reconquer with my main army.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Amazingly I managed to hold off wave after wave and from inside the highest courtyard I let my most accurate troops do the firing and the weaker ones do the melee combat if it was needed. Eventually I routed two units and they started a chain rout. At the end of the battle map most of them came back from routing though. They had to walk all the way back to my castle and there they were met with another barrage, causing a mass rout of all units left.

If I had had even a single unit of cavalry then the enemies' casualties would have been at least 6000. I only had infantry though so couldn't chase down any routing units. It would have been a glorious victory if I could have just sent out some riders and run down all those routing troops! The result wasn't too shabby, considering that all 8000 soldiers of the enemy entered the battle almost simultaneously.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The next turn I sent my foreign veteran agents to kill two of their generals in single combat and a ninja (or whatever they're called those shinguzimuuzu!) to bribe a smaller army. After all those preliminary moves I took my main army that had finally caught up and engaged the last remnant of their mighty three stacks.

You gotta love Gatlings and Parrot guns those artillery pieces combined with my elite infantry inflicted a heavy defeat on those backstabbers. Tomorrow I'll take their puny two cities and crush their last remaining armies.

Here, I certainly learned the value of foreign troops.

Behind a single unit of French Marines, one can see a mob of Saga line infantry fleeing like cowards. Those Frenchmen, on the other hand, fought to the last man against overwhelming odds.
