Concept:
Create a medieval/fantasy open world in which players can manage an empire, make and break alliances, go to war, fight dark knights and dragons, marry off prince and princesses and make their name feared and respected throughout Arthurian Britannia.
Although based on Arthurian legend, its more or less an open world fantasy game and will stray from some of its details and will borrow themes from other fantasy genres as well.
Campaign:
The main concept of the campaign hasn't changed; build a civilization, both economically and militarily in order to conquer other factions. You can go about doing this peacefully and forcefully. Most changes will mostly be with religion and the use of the Papal States and the types of buildings, guilds and new units.
Quests and searches for famous relics will be common, such as searching for the Holy Grail, which will be represented as a trade commodity somewhere on the map and will bring kingdoms great fortune. Characters will scramble around the map and do their thing:
Dragons, Knights and the Order:
Religion has been diminished to a set of buildings such as churches and cathedrals that increase public order and happiness. The kinds of religious buildings differ between races. Instead of priests patrolling the land for heresy and Catholic, Islamic and Pagan rates going up and down there will instead be knights, dragons and dark knights; either spreading Order or Chaos. Chaos will mostly be imposed by The Dark Forces who will be everywhere when the games starts. All of the playable factions will be pushing for Order throughout their lands really, but Human factions have a special role in this. The Knights of the Round which is talking the place of the Papal States and will send kingdoms on various missions to hunt down dragons and dark knights and restore Order in many areas in the realm. Knights function like vanilla priests, with dragons and dark knights standing in for witches and heretics (obvious how their relationship plays out) Regular knights will be promoted to Heroes and will take their seat of the The Knights of the Round and will have a chance of being a Legend, and the leader of the Round Table and its factions. Factions could have a falling out with the Legendary Hero (by not following orders and what not) and could be kicked out of the The Knights of the Round, making it open season on that faction.
Quests:
Taking the place of Crusades, and can be requested of the The Knights of the Round. Like in vanilla you must have enough favor with the The Knights of the Round in order to request a quest. The type of quest given to you is usually at random and it will consist of the latter (see c.)
-Types of Quests
a. Quests from Council of Nobles: diplomatic, military orders, assassinations
b. Round Table Orders: diplomatic, construction and recruitment orders, princess rescues*, dragon and dark knight missions.
c. Requested Quests: princess rescues*, military orders (for favor), dragon and knight quests (for favor), epic quests**(for favor).
*Damsel in Distress - "Save the Princess", basically a type of quest meant for knights. Princesses taken from one of the factions in the game are imprisoned somewhere on the map, guarded by wither a dragon or dark knight. The knight that you send must locate where the princess is being held and defeat the guardian. After the princess is released, you may gain favor from the Round Table and even the faction the princess belonged to. These missions always do help with diplomatic relations and being good in the eyes of the Round Table.
**Epic Quests - Although one could accomplish these quests alone to benefit their own kingdom, it may also may a good idea to accomplish these missions in the name of the Knights of the Round Table. Looking for artifacts such as the Holy Grail in the name of the Round Table will bring riches to your kingdom and prove your name worthy to Heroes. (Quests for Rangers)
Rangers and Treasures:
Rangers are the characters replacing merchants in the game and usually have the same job as vanilla merchants, except with a catch. Rangers are rather treating as adventurers and traveling merchants at the same time. Rangers can challenge each other to duels (instead of asset acquisition) and can result in the death of the ranger and the acquisition of his things or his victory and takeover of his enemy, or the ranger escapes. While you can use them to sell commodities, and challenge other rangers, they can also go on adventures, searching for amazing artifacts such as the Holy Grail.
Treasures such as these will be represented as commodities on the map and are placed all around in mountains with narrow passes (which can be used to rangers advantage, if accompanied by troops they can block the pass). These treasures can bring great fortune to the faction and are very valuable to each kingdom.
Excalibur:
Excalibur will be a "resource" located somewhere on the map at the beginning of the game. Once the Sword is stumbled upon, it used as retinue for the leader the faction the ranger who found it belongs to and resource is nullified. Excalibur will increase the wielders combat efficiency in battle and it can only be acquired by Kings and Princes. Excalibur can be acquired by another faction if the wielder is killed in battle by the armies of another King or Prince. Can retinue is transferred to the victor. The royalty must be in the army against the army of the wielder for this to happen, thus the cycle continues. Also, when one faction gains the power of Excalibur, your reputations with other factions can only either suffer dramatically or improve greatly.
Creatures:
There are many creatures residing in Camelot but only a chosen few, mythical and powerful can be tamed and captured and put to use in battle to expand your great kingdom.
Trolls – Live in isolated rocky and mountainous areas and can be captured from there.
Giants – Can be found in forested areas and are decent fighters in battle.
Green Horned Dragons – Most common form of a dragon but more powerful than what can be raised in a castle. They can be found in certain random areas in Albion.
Scarlet Dragon – Found where treasure lies or in mountainous areas. This dragon uses fire breath to great use in combat.
Mountain Dragon – Can be found in Northern Albion where it is in colder and the terrain in rocky and rough. It uses its sharp claws in battle to destroy its enemies.
Griffins - Can only be found in one region in Albion that is a mountainous area. Not only that, they are expensive to capture and maintain. Griffins can also be obtained as a gift for extraordinary deeds done by ones kingdom. These majestic creatures take the power of flight a sheer brutality to defeat their enemies. While these creature can fight long and hard they aren’t as powerful as most of the other creatures.
Tree Giants - These great magical creatures are only available to Druids in their forested starting regions. Tree Giants can only be contacted through the magical powers of the Druids, which adds to the unique power of the faction. With the height of actual trees and moves of a human, these creatures can smite enemies with one blow where they stand.
Heroes:
Heroes are special units/characters that appear in the campaign after a certain criteria is met. For each faction, heroes are the namesakes of the playable factions (Arthur, Launcelot etc.). These heroes work the same as the heroes in vanilla Kingdoms, but they only appear once the player has completed the requirements for triggering their appearance. Each faction has their own goals to attain in order to trigger the coming of their hero which could have anything to do with the amount of missions one has completed or the favor one has with the Knights of the Round, battles, or the state of your generals.
