adoption not completed?!?!

so i get a popup message that says would you like to adopt x person, the benefactor being my top general. i click yes and i get him in the city where my top general is(this city has plague). the turn after, i get another message for adoption, this time the benefactor is the person that i adopted the turn before. i click yes, then another message appears saying that my messenger arrived a moment to late with my generous offer, and that the the person is now deceased. did anyone else ever encounter this scenario?

That sucks, but what does the benefactor mean? I never understood what that meant, but I still adopt like everyone that it says.

The benefactor is the dude who adopts the general - a bit like patricians here at TWC.

I recently got this too, Why does it happens? I find it very weird actually, but kind of spices things a bit and makes playing SPQR campaign a lot of fun!
