Default Comparison of missile weapons' capabilities

    From:

    http://www.historycy.org/index.php?showtopic=146&st=30

They provide interesting data on capabilities of different missile weapons (from modern experiment conducted by US Navy):

Chinese crossbow from the Ming dynasty (1), Medieval Genoese crossbow (2), Venician arbalette (3), long composite Turkish bow (4), long Welsh bow (5), short Asian composite bow (6):

    Maximum range - 1 - 700m, 2 - 685 m, 3 - 790 m, 4 - 910 m, 5 - 790m, 6 - 870m
    Range of 50% accuracy - 1 - 565m, 2 - 540m, 3 - 260m, 4 - 680m, 5 - 635m, 6 - 660m
    Penetration of plate armour (stationary target) - 1 - 295 m, 2 - 295 m, 3 - 330 m, 4 - 250 m, 5 - 240 m, 6 - 145 m
    Penetration of plate armour (moving target) - 1 - 85 m, 2 - 85 m, 3 - 95 m, 4 - 75 m, 5 - 75 m , 6 - 25 m

I don't know how big efficiency in penetration (how big % of hits = penetration) was approved as range of penetration ?!

    =================================

And also such a comparison (each result for each weapons from each type of capality was divided by the best result in this group; importance / weight of penetration of moving target was established as 2, the rest of capabilities was given weight 1):

    Ming crossbow = 0,67+0,83+0,89+2x0,89 = 4,26
    Genoese crossbow = 0,75+0,79+0,89+2x0,89 = 4,21
    Venician arbalette = 0,86+0,38+1,00+2x1,00 = 4,24
    long Turkish composite bow = 1,00+1,00+0,75+2x0,78 = 4,31
    Welsh longbow = 0,86+0,93+0,72+2x0,78 = 4,07
    short Asian composite bow = 0,95+0,97+0,43+2x0,25 = 2,87

The winner is long Turkish composite bow.

But this comparison doesn't yet include the rate of fire factor. And bows had much bigger rate of fire than crossbows.

You see now.. with a bow as this, they defeated the Byzantines at the battle of Mantzikert (1071) in Asia Minor...
